An assisted living community is a residential community which offers care, aid, and supervision to healthy seniors who do not require skilled nursing support. The types of service offered often involve support with activities of daily living. Inhabitants may be kept under observation and assessment. Under certain circumstances, communities may provide respite, nursing, or hospice. In Indiana, the annual median cost for an assisted living community is around 49,200. The state of Indiana has a number of provisions associated with this kind of community. Indiana State Department of Health licenses this type of community. communities must consider residents’ personal preference meals may temporarily be delivered to the resident’s room. Public assistance is available through Medicaid A&D and TBI 1915(c) Waiver program. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include executing a minor regimen based upon a nursing diagnosis or as prescribed by a physician, physician’s assistant, chiropractor, dentist, optometrist, podiatrist, or nurse practitioner, identifying responses to actual or potential health conditions, scheduled transportation for community-based activities, and activities and programs appropriate to residents’ abilities and interests. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to guarantee their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as a negotiated risk plan will be established, A comprehensive assessment, evaluation must be updated at least semi-annually or when a significant change in condition occurs, and community will identify scope of care based on evaluation. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include preparation of prescribed medications, resident must be observed for effects of medications and undesirable effects must be documented and the resident’s physician notified, and Medications may be administered under physician’s order by licensed nursing personnel or qualified medication aides.
