Assisted Living

Assisted living communities offer apartment style housing and social interaction as well as individual support. Assisted living communities often provide support with daily activities, assistance with transportation and appointments, and care supervision. Under certain circumstances, communities may offer respite, hospice, or nursing care. In Illinois, the annual median cost for an assisted living community is around $50,040 . The state of Illinois has a number of stipulations associated with this type of community. The Illinois Department of Public Health regulates this community type. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include only a licensed health care professionall employed by the community may administer medications, documenting whether or not the resident took the medication, and observing the resident. The minimum number of residents for this community type is 3. There must be one bath or shower for every residents and one toilet for every 1 residents. This type of community is required to have a staff member on duty 24 hours a day. There is a maximum occupancy of 1 residents per room. Staff are required to obtain training in a variety of areas. These include: disaster procedures, job responsibilities and limitations, resident rights, and independence. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to guarantee their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as A comprehensive assessment, evaluation of a prospective resident’s physical condition, provider must ensure that the resident and the resident’s representative, if any, are informed of the potential consequences of activities that the provider considers to pose risks to health and/or safety, and evaluation of a prospective resident’s psychosocial condition. This community has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include communities must provide three daily meals. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include housekeeping, medication reminders, assistance with activities of daily living, and supervision of self-administered medications. Public assistance is available through A Medicaid 1915(c) waiver called the Supported Living Program and a 1915(b) waiver called the Managed Long-Term Services and Supports program.
