An assisted living community is a residential community which offers support, aid, and supervision to healthy seniors who do not need skilled nursing services. The types of service provided often include support with the activities of daily life. Occupants may be kept under supervision and evaluation. Under certain circumstances, communities may provide hospice, “aging in place”, or dementia care. In Illinois, the annual median cost for an assisted living community is around $50,040 . These provisions include medication administration, observing the resident, and reading the medication label to residents. In total, there can be no more than 1 residents to a room. The minimum number of residents for this community type is 3. This type of community is required to have a staff member on duty 24 hours a day. There must be one bath or shower for every residents and one toilet for every 1 residents. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to assure their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as provider must ensure that the resident and the resident’s representative, if any, are informed of the potential consequences of activities that the provider considers to pose risks to health and/or safety, evaluation of a prospective resident’s cognitive condition, evaluation of a prospective resident’s psychosocial condition, and evaluation of a prospective resident’s physical condition.
