Assisted living communities offer oversight, personal care, and recreational activities to individuals around 65 years old. The services provided often involve aid with ADLs. Inhabitants may be kept under supervision and evaluation. Under certain circumstances, communities may provide dementia care, respite, or hospice. In Illinois, the annual median cost for an assisted living community is around $50,040 . The state of Illinois maintains specific regulations related to this type of community. The Illinois Department of Public Health licenses this type of community. Public assistance is available through A Medicaid 1915(c) waiver called the Supported Living Program and a 1915(b) waiver called the Managed Long-Term Services and Supports program. The minimum number of residents for this community type is 3. This type of community is required to have a staff member on duty 24 hours a day. In total, there can be no more than 1 residents to a room. There must be one toilet for every 1 residents and one bath or shower for every residents. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include laundry, medication administration, housekeeping, and supervision of self-administered medications. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include only a licensed health care professionall employed by the community may administer medications, medication administration, and reading the medication label to residents. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to ensure their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as assessment must be updated by a physician annually or upon a significant change in condition, evaluation of a prospective resident’s cognitive condition, evaluation of a prospective resident’s psychosocial condition, and A comprehensive assessment. This community has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include communities must provide three daily meals. Staff must obtain training in a number of subjects. These areas include confidentiality, independence, residents’ need and service plans, and infection control.
