Assisted living communities offer oversight, care, and social opportunities to individuals who are around 65 years of age or older. Assisted living communities usually provide care supervision, aid with appointments and transportation, and chances for organized activity. Under certain circumstances, communities may provide continuing care, nursing care, or respite. In Illinois, the annual median cost for an assisted living community is around $50,040 . The state of Illinois has specific statutes related to this kind of community. The Illinois Department of Public Health supervises this type of community. The minimum number of residents for this community type is 3. There must be one bath or shower for every residents and one toilet for every 1 residents. This type of community is required to have a staff member on duty 24 hours a day. There is a maximum occupancy of 1 residents per room. Public assistance is available through A Medicaid 1915(c) waiver called the Supported Living Program and a 1915(b) waiver called the Managed Long-Term Services and Supports program. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include supervision of self-administered medications, laundry, housekeeping, and emergency response systems. Staff members obtain education in a variety of fields. These areas include choice, disaster procedures, abuse, and confidentiality. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to ensure their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as evaluation of a prospective resident’s physical condition, evaluation of a prospective resident’s psychosocial condition, assessment must be updated by a physician annually or upon a significant change in condition, and evaluation of a prospective resident’s cognitive condition. This community has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include communities must provide three daily meals. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include supervision of self-administered medications, documenting whether or not the resident took the medication, and only a licensed health care professionall employed by the community may administer medications.
