Assisted living communities provide residential communities and health care to your loved one who may require help with preparing meals or self-administering medication. Assisted living communities usually offer opportunities for organized activity, assistance with daily activities, and care supervision. In select instances, communities may offer “aging in place”, hospice, or dementia care. In Florida, the annual median cost for an assisted living community is around 42,000. The state of Florida has a number of provisions associated with this kind of community. The Bureau of Health community Regulation certifies this type of community. Public assistance is available through 1915(b)(c) MLTC program. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include assistance with self-administration of medications, assistance with activities of daily living , nursing services, and personal care services. This type of community is required to have a staff member on duty 24 hours a day. There must be one bath or shower for every 1 residents and one toilet for every 1 residents. The minimum number of residents for this community type is 1. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include staff may take previously dispensed, properly labeled containers from where they are stored and bringing them to the resident, opening the container and removing a prescribed amount of medication, and licensed nursing staff may administer medications. Staff members receive education in a variety of subjects. These areas include community sanitation procedures, community emergency procedures, 26 hours of training plus a competency test, and reporting incidents. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to guarantee their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as community must document any substantial changes in a resident’s status which may necessitate relocation to a more specialized community , monthly nursing assessment of resident as ordered by physician , medical examination report, and communities must document such assessment. This community has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include the community must provide a variety of regular meals that meet the nutritional needs of residents, meals must be adapted to residents physical abilities , the community must provide therapeutic diets as ordered by the resident’s health care provider for residents who require special diets, and meals must be adapted to residents preferences.
