An assisted living community is a residential community which provides aid, supervision, and support to medically stable individuals who are not in need of skilled nursing services. Assisted living communities usually offer outings for leisurely activity, care supervision, and help with the activities of daily life. The state of California has specific statutes related to this type of community. The Department of Social Services, Community Care Licensing Division governs this type of community. This type of community is required to have a staff member on duty 24 hours a day. There must be one bath or shower for every 1 residents and one toilet for every 1 residents. Public assistance is available through The state’s Medicaid 1915(c) Assisted Living Waiver program. Staff are required to obtain training in a variety of fields. These include: need for professionall help, the aging process, residents’ rights, and medication policies and procedures.
