I toured this community and it was nice overall. It's a big facility and I didn't love the set up, but that's also personal preference. We wanted something small and homey feeling. Pricing was pretty high. For those who prefer a bigger place, it could be a good fit.
I wouldn't recommend Westmont of Fresno to others for their loved ones. The care my loved one receives isn't enough. My loved one has fallen multiple times, and my loved one has had to wait nearly an hour before someone would help them up to their bed on a couple of occasions. The community has provided chicken salad with no dressing for my loved one. There has been times my loved one has only received vegetables for dinner and no starch or main dish.

The cost was too much for us.
In the beginning our experience was fine but they went through a management change and everything went downhill. Due to the covid restrictions the residents were confined in their rooms and the activities were shut down. We felt our loved ones car was neglected and she was not receiving the proper medicine.

My mom has been at Westmont for almost 3 years and she loves it! She is in memory care and the staff all love her and she thinks they are her family! When we do have an issue, we call and it is taken care of in a timely manner, most of the time!! My family and I are happy with the care of our mom!!

The assisted living part would be about a four out of five. We did have to call them a few times to make sure the things that they promised were getting done. This community is very clean, and compared to the other communities the value is about right in the middle, and the rooms are adequate in size.

[Name removed] and [name removed] were very informative and pleasant. Outdoor and open spaces were very nice. Meeting/activity areas plentiful. Somewhat limited choice of meals. Very spread out requiring lots of walking to get to restaurant etc. 1 bedroom apt was adequate, but the "studio" was a joke. More like an extended hallway into a smallish bed area. No room for a sofa or other sitting area. Limited closet space. Pricing started off at a fair price but the costs quickly escalated for each and every "option" for service.

My wife and I were given a tour of Cottonwood Court this past weekend and we were very impressed. Everything I clean, bright, and the décor was very nice. The rooms have good natural light and appear comfortable. They are very considerate of veterans and have a Veteran's Memorial room to meet, play pool, and watch TV. They offer a full range of assistance to help residents as needed.

Response from Westmont of Fresno
April 12, 2019Thank you for the time to leave our Community a great review. Westmont Living/Cottonwood Court
Cottonwood Court gets a half star because that is the lowest possible option. I will give no identifying information as no one in particular needs to be called out. I have a family member who was formerly at Cottonwood Court in both of their buildings. The actual floor staff there is friendly and seem to be very hardworking but as you go up the chain of command there are serious deficiencies. Most of the "directors" have worked there for a lengthy period of time and are proud to share that with everyone. I believe in a strong leadership environment but friendships seem to blind the company leadership. The employee turnover rate seems very high (which is common in the healthcare industry). It seems as though the staff changes from month to month. The appearance of the buildings is seemingly nice until you look closely. The dining rooms are dirty, the carpets throughout are stained or soiled, apartment cleanliness leaves something to be desired and I have even witnessed team members closing doors of resident's apartments when a tour or walkthrough by upper management is taking place. Paint is chipping, wallpaper is coming unglued from the walls, there are holes or gashes in walls, and the whole place could use a dusting. Don't let the activities calendars fool you either. Looking at their calendar and newsletter you would think the programming is thorough and engaging but spend some time in the activities with your loved one throughout the day and you will see that they are not all they are cracked up to be. The food is second class at best. They promote an "extensive" menu but again, look closely and you will see a lot of repeat dishes and a lack of any real nutrition. Compare their 6-week menu cycle and it is more similar than they lead you to believe. If the above isn't bad enough, that was just describing their assisted living building. Their memory care is even below these standards. If you happen to be looking for memory care, ask to see multiple hallways in the building and you will notice that they promote the best looking hall at the time but most of them are not great. The entry to the building (Town Square I believe) is loud, the activities are chaotic and most everyone is asleep. The second class food prepared in the assisted living is even worse when it arrives in memory care. Dining rooms are messy, residents have food on their clothes, half are asleep and it is just not a pleasant dining experience. Directors attempt to address concerns but you cannot hide a fake persona. I never heard a floor staff member speak poorly of their management but you can tell by their demeanor and interactions that most are not happy. When touring their community they might let you interact with residents or their families but they are very selective of who you interact with. There are a few positives however. Most of the staff members seem to have a very caring heart and the place is nicer than "slum" communities. I attended a few of the larger events and they were also nice. I really wanted to like Cottonwood but when it comes to the care of my loved one during their last years, months or days, this place just doesn't cut it. Definitely check it out for yourself but keep in mind the notes I have provided here.

Our mom has been at Cottonwood Memory Care for 4 months now. She had lived in her home for about 68 years and so this was a very difficult move for her and for us. We were shown around the facility beforehand and were impressed with how clean it smelled and how clean it was visibly inside and out and the friendliness of the staff. They assured us, encouraged us, hugged us during the difficult stage of adjustment for mom. Sometimes it takes a couple of weeks, sometimes a couple of months and sometimes longer for them to adjust. The staff....they don't give up and they didn't give up on our mom. We love those caregivers that tend to her needs each and every day and we pray God's blessings on each and every one.

January 8, 2019BSchmidt, Thank you for taking the time to leave our Community a wonderful review. We are happy that we could assist your Mother during the transition stage. We will always put our Residents and Families first. -Cottonwood Court
My Dad has been living at Cottonwood since November 2016. He was previously living alone and had fallen several times prior to moving in. He enjoys his new apartment, the staff and especially the food. He hasn't eaten this well since my mom passed away 7 years ago. The staff is professional, friendly and always smiling and they take the time to say 'Hello'. They are competent and always willing to discuss any issues my Dad may have. The nursing staff dispenses his medication and I no longer worry that he's taking the correct dosage at the proper times. My dad was lucky in the sense he had a friend that was already living at Cottonwood, so he wanted to live there too. In fact they live right down the hallway from each other and eat their meals together. I no longer worry everyday about my Dad. I know he's recieving the best care. There's lots to do and many activities the residents can participate in if they choose. This is a great place for your loved one to live and still be independent.

January 8, 2019Glenda Pryor, Thanks for the feedback and great review. So happy to hear your Father is enjoying his stay as well as the amenities at Cottonwood Court. We are also delighted that you feel secure with our professional staff & care. As always, our Residents & Families are our top priority. -Cottonwood Court
Mom had enjoyed and independent living lifestyle until she fell and broke her hip in early July. She had been suffering from progressively worsening short-term memory loss for the last couple of years. After a month of post surgery rehabilitation, she turned 90 during that time, we moved her into an assisted living apartment at Cotton Wood Court. The accommodations, food and activities have been outstanding. The staff are wonderfully competent and caring. It has taken Mom a few weeks to "settle in" and adjust to her new environment, due primarily to the negative effects of her hip surgery (anesthesia, pain medication, etc.) on her memory and emotions; but thanks to the patience and loving care of the Cottonwood staff, Mom and the rest of her family have come to appreciate and love her new home.

We searched many places for my mother and father-in-law to live , and when we came to Cottonwood Court we knew it was the place. My MIL had a stroke and it was one of two places that allowed her to get her wheelchair under the sink so she could still have some independence. Cottonwood doesn't just provide a home and care for them, but truly treats their residents like family!

I also toured Cottonwood Court. I thought it was a very nice facility. The staff was friendly and welcoming. The tour guide was able to answer my questions and give me good information. It was a good experience but we found another community in a better location that for my loved one's needs better.

The staff and management at Cottonwood are genuinely friendly, caring and go out of their way to help. The facilities are attractive, well thought out, and kept clean. The rooms are lovely suites that one can personalize to feel like your true home. The food is outstanding in both variety and taste. There are nurses available to help and monitor. This facility is a total package that I definitely recommend.

The staff at this community is very nice and they go above and beyond to assist the residents and the families. Some of the family has tried the food and it is good. Mom does not participate in a lot of activities yet but she does enjoy the bingo. I would recommend this clean and well maintained community.

This was the first time to have a care giver. She worked out great even though Mom was grumpy and resistant at first. It was good for me to have some time off from the care giving. The caregiver was warm and friendly, and the light housekeeping she did was greatly appreciated.
