Scottsdale’s pleasant year-round climate means that there are outdoor activities abound. The region is very well known for golfing, and is home to over 200 courses. In fact, Scottsdale has been known to bill itself as “The World’s Finest Golf Destination.” Scottsdale’s frequent number of sunny days, low precipitation, and low humidity make for some ideal golfing conditions, whenever the mood may strike. The city has courses to fit every taste, skill level, and budget, and it’s no wonder that Scottsdale is frequently considered by many to be one of the country’s best locations for golfing. Outdoor enthusiasts who prefer scenery without the sports should visit the Desert Botanical Garden, a 55-acre preserve of desert plant life and serene beauty. Visitors can put their city lives aside and observe numerous types of trees and flowers from all over the world.

Another of Scottsdale’s claims to fame is its reputation as a resort town. The city contains over 50 day spas and luxury resorts to help you unwind in a tranquil desert setting after a long day. Also of note is the region’s culinary scene – from high-end Mexican cuisine to steak, wine bars, and seafood options, Scottsdale offers dining options to suit all palettes and preferences.

Architecture buffs would be interested to know that Scottsdale is home to Taliesin West, the former Winter home of Frank Lloyd Wright and current location of the School of Architecture at Taliesin. The structure sits on the edge of the McDowell Mountain Range, overlooking the surrounding desert. Taliesin West is on the National Register of Historic Places, is designated as a National Historic Landmark, and offers daily tours.


Scottsdale’s public transportation is provided by Valley Metro, which services the greater Phoenix area. Valley Metro consists mainly of a bus and rail system, both of which operate daily from early morning hours to late at night, and cover a wide stretch of the city.
