Nightmare
I'm not sure of where to send this email but I wanted to tell you about our first experience with Elisabeth House in Hagerstown. We met with Minnie and she said she would need to see how my mom is for 30 days. On April 8, 2014, we took my mom to the doctor to get a physical and fill out the paperwork that was given to us by Minnie. After that, on Wednesday, April 9th, we drove my mother to the place of care. Today is April 11th and we've been called to pick her up because they cannot deal with her. The story: When we initially met with her, she told us we'd have to pay $500 for a move in fee and the rate would be $2,000.00 per month. We did not pay it initially because we needed to get the paperwork filled out. So, a couple of days later, Minnie called me and said someone else was looking at the room and if we wanted it, we'd need to pay. My wife then overnight a check to Elisabeth House to hold a room. On April 9th, we took another tour with mom around the house, then we unpacked a few of her belongings. We told my brother to sit in the room with her while we discuss payment. In her office, the price surprisingly changed to $2200.00. We found this a bit odd but it was not out of the realm of what can be afforded so we said okay. We signed papers and then today, April 11th, I get a call from Mini who said she could not keep her because of her wandering. When she talked to us initially, she said this was a place that can deal with dementia patients. When she walked us around, she showed us her unlocking the doors with codes. So, they are not suppose to be open. Now we're out of $500 for nothing. She said she would refund us the $2200.00 but I'm little disappointed because how is this facility not equipped to keep the doors locked for wandering patients. Very disappointed and yeah we just gave $500 away because we love giving away money. After all of this happened, Mini kept my mother yet another day because according to her, she wanted to try again. Well, my brother ended up driving up to pick my mother up. She did not give it any chance at all. Very disappointed. Would not recommend this place to anyone whose mother or father is still active but living with dementia.
