Vista Blue Mountain review
I cannot rate the meals and dining because I did not eat there and I did not participate in the activities as well. It is way too expensive for people needing that kind of help on a fixed income. All neighbors are 50 years old and up. Very kind gracious people and what a great environment for people retired like it has been for myself. Everything is within 3 miles or less from You. Not a lot of Sr. Homes, but they have Sr. Care people that can be paid to come out to your house daily if needed and help you with home care. My neighbors help me. It's the happiest I've been in a long time. Friendly staff, yes, but again, price is a huge turn-off, the rest of the place is great, no complaints here. All though their walls are very thin, you can hear your neighbors way you easy. They also will just walk into your room while you're sleeping to check on you without notice. They did that while I was in the shower once. Do privacy was an issue I forgot about.

Our experience with Vista
We chose Vista Blue Mountain because it is close to our home and I am the only daughter in the area, at the time price was part of the factor, and they offered us an all inclusive plan so regardless of the level of care. Meaning the price would be the same each month and that made it easier to budget. Part of the all inclusive plan was that they would deliver the meals to the room, so that has been very nice. She is a picky eater, but the quality of the meals served is not great. I have spoken to the other residents and their family and they had all said the same thing. I do not think this is unique to Vista, but they do have a high staff turnover. We are on the 4th director since moving in about a year ago. There are only about 3/4 staff members that have been there since we started. The staff that are there though are all very friendly. I love the gal at the front desk ,she is so helpful. If I ever have any questions or concerns, they are very responsive.

Tour experience
I was not at all impressed by Vista Blue Mountain. IT looked like an institution and right when I walked in it smelled very bad. The people were nice but it just looked like a hospital.

I was pleased with this community. This community just did not have the services that my loved one needed at the time to get the best care. Great tour.

Horrific!!
My mom passed away on [date removed] , and I haven't been able to reach them as there lines are down to know where my mothers body was taken. My brother is the only one who knows, and isn't disclosing the location. The staff was always friendly, but not very clean. My mom & youngest brother told me her room was always a big mess, and they wouldn't clean it. My oldest brother put her there, and we had no say in the matter as he took advantage of her state of mind to get power of attorney. From what I have found is, once the patient dies, the power ceases, unless it was written where they have control of her arrangements....if after 10 days, there's no movement, then we can take possession. My mom has to be buried with my father, so i just want to locate my mom. Saturday I wasn't allowed to see her, as my brother blocked my entry, then she died overnight.

Great place for dad
We chose Vista Blue Mountain because their sales staff and the manager were great. We were in a tough situation and they really helped us out. The staff are always accessible, when we need something we call and they get it taken care of quickly. The activities director and the activities themselves are great also, the director has really worked with my dad and we have seen improvements. It has been a great experience and I would definitely recommend them.

Highly recommend Vista Blue
Vista blue is a smaller facility, only about 70 residents so they can cater to their needs better. It is always clean and smells good. The staff are very friendly and they seem to be taking great care of her. Sonota Care also comes in and provides other types of care and they have been great. Their activities director is a 10 out of 5 all the time, she keeps residents engaged. I would recommend to other looking.

Not what I expected
It sounds great and looks great but we have had issues with theft. Her narcotic medications disappeared, jewelry, personal property, and three wheelchairs, too The food was not good but has improved a little bit with a new chef. They would run out of the food listed on the menu. The caregivers in the memory care were wonderful, but the caregivers in the assisted living are almost nonexistent. For example, the staff haven't taking her trash out, cleaned her apartment, or done her laundry this week, and it is an ongoing problem.

The private rooms seemed fine. However, the partner rooms had a door/hall setup that was unmanageable. Especially for someone with with a walker/chair. Very poor design flaw. I am surprised that it passed inspection.

Try and talk to residents to get the true picture
Our mom has been in the place for about five months, and we have had problem after problem. From the manger to the staff, the food is bad and sometimes not enough. They don’t listen when you tell them you are a diabetic and can’t eat or drink certain foods. You don’t get your monies worth here, but when you don’t have a big budget then you have little choice. They charge way too much. They need to screen there workers better, because some of them don’t treat people like human beings. Don’t get me wrong it’s not the hold stuff just a few. Please do your homework.

Safe and secure courtyard
This is one of two Brookdale’s in the area. I prefer this one and I actually placed my friend here. It’s a smaller facility and they have a courtyard in the middle of the building that is secure. I feel like my friend has a safe place in the courtyard and to me, that’s comforting to know. The manager, Tammy, helped me a great deal by sending me a lot of information even if I didn’t move my friend in here. I would recommend this facility to people who need a little more help.

Very bad care! Nice manager but not a good one
VERY BAD CARE, Nice manager, I had talked to her about some serious issues 2 times prior to me finding my elderly father with no pants on (pull-up) in front of his airconditioner, freezing cold with purple lips! Unresponsive..I pushed his emergency button and told them to call 911!!,, The staff hurried to put pajama bottoms on before paramedics arrived, they told me dehydrated and very low heart rate, I told fireman how i found him and so glad tbey were fast! The paramedics asked the staff if he had anything to drink or eat today? staff said NO! They took my Dad to hospital , We did NOT bring him back to Brookdale Grand Terrace.

Do not go to Brookdale Grand Terrace, Ca.
Brookdale in Grand Terrace Ca. Not a good place for care. Do NOT recommend this place. Expected my Father in law to be in good hands. He was not! My wife always worried and checked on him often. Save your family member from heartache and keep them away from Brookdale Grand Terrace, Ca. Thank you, [name removed]

I am happy here
I like it here I have a nice spacious studio apartment. The people her are all so pleasant and helpful. They know everybody by name. The food is good most of the time and we eat 3x a day. They clean and do my laundry every Saturday. I will go out and go shopping sometimes. I would recommend this community.

Hideous
I toured here for my loved one, and I thought that the place was hideous. My loved one would have had to have a roommate, and the rooms were already small. The doors were off the closets, and the place seemed dark and institutional. The staff was very nice, they really were wonderful people, but the faculty itself just was not a good fit for us.

Dirty rooms and dirty facility!
I toured here and I did not like them at all. It did not look clean. They showed me the room that my loved one would be staying in, it was a shared room, and the part that she was going to be in hadn’t been cleaned. Even if it was sitting empty, housekeeping should still be making sure there weren’t any live bugs (which there were) in the room (in this case, it was the bathroom). It looked very shabby. The rest of the facility didn’t look clean, either. The staff was able to answer my questions for the most part. The food was very important for my loved one because she’s vegetarian and wasn’t eating properly so I wanted to make sure they’d be able to provide food that was appetizing for her. They couldn’t guarantee me that they would be able to provide vegetarian meals for her.

Dad is Settling in
This community was such a good fit for my dad the staff here are nice and helpful. He's not a social type so activities will be there when he wants. They do take him to doctors appointments if needed which help us. It is close to us. They keep it clean and smelling good. The grounds are well maintained. He is always eating very well too. I would recommend this community to friends and family.

about JC Wallace House

A Place for Mom has scored JC Wallace House 8 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.

We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.

Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
