The assisted living rooms looked like hospital rooms

I toured this community and I think, as far as their independent living is concerned, they’re good. I didn’t like the assisted living much because it was more like a nursing home. The rooms in the assisted living side were very small, more like a hospital room. I saw their dining area and they had a buffet that looked pretty good. I was able to interact with the supervisors of the different wings and they seemed to be knowledgeable about the facility. Ultimately, the location wasn’t ideal so we decided against this community.

Large Entrance Fee

I think that where my mother is is nicer, but I haven't walked around that much. I have been there a few times. He only gets one meal a day, and my mother gets two, which is nice. He payed a 130,000 entrance fee to get in there, and he still has to pay rent each month. They have a hospital there, like a nursing home, and my aunt was kind of sickly. With that fee, they were guaranteed a place there no matter what happens. He has been there ten years.

Short-Staffed

It's a hard time to find a place that's perfect because of the lack of employees. There just weren't enough staff to provide the care that my loved one needed, especially in regards to getting to the bathroom. They're very receptive when you talk to them with concerns and say they'll get things done, but then it just never gets resolved. They never even got her her own mailbox the whole time she was there. The facility itself was clean. I always saw people cleaning, and they kept my loved one's room clean for the most part.

Mixed experience

My father was at Friendship Village for 4 years. He started in Independent Living, then moved to Assisted Living, then moved to Memory Care. Independent Living was a good experience … good food, nice resident interactions, personal trainers. Assisted Living was an OK experience. Memory care was a poor experience. FV staff were understaffed and undertrained. I was so concerned that I put together a 50-line-item spreadsheet and had twice-monthly calls with FV to ensure accountability and follow-up. (IMHO, I should not have had to micro-manage FV like this). And the last 48 hours of my father’s life broke my heart in how it was handled by FV staff. Lots of detail here, but they did not handle it per my instructions nor my father’s wishes. There were some bright spots with FV employees who were exceptional (the trainer, the chaplain, some aides). One thing we did that made FV bearable was hiring augmented (from outside FV) staff to shore up for the undertrained FV employees.

Could be more creative during this time with COVID, and food can use improvement

Recently I noticed my jewelry has been stole, and the food quality has declined. At first ordering food that was good was easy, but now it has been more difficult and of the food items are not edible. I was very lucky i get a deluxe room, which i love my apartment. It is spacious and very nice.

The Waterford / Lifespace

On the whole the Waterford delivers on its contractual obligations which are sufficient to make the everyday life of octogenarians reasonably comfortable if followed. it is worth mentioning the poor dinning facilities which are staffed by mostly untrained servers some even displaying outrigh rude, unfriendly and menacing behavior which Managemen assumes as an acceptable norm.

Bad therapy

The therapy was just horrible, the had temporaries that were coming in and i never really got the same person. what the therapist did was have me walk down to the therapy center and put me on a machine and leave me there for as much as 45 minutes and not do anything else. She would stay in the room with me and its a good amchine, but she would do her paperwork while i sat on the machine even if she didnt have any other people to work with. i understand that shes not there anymore. it was clean and i liked the other people there, it was basically the therapy that was a problem and it was so much more expensive than the other places.

I Toured This Community

We were not impressed with the community, the rooms in the memory care unit was not very big, there are bathrooms in between two rooms, you had the option to take both bedrooms but with an upcharge or just take one bedroom and have to share a bathroom with another resident. There was not enough individual care for the residents.

Do not admit your loved one to the rehab unit!!!

I’m giving the GreenFields rehab unit an overall score of 2 which is a combination of a 5 for the heroic nurses/CNAs and less than a 0 for the administration. The administration was more concerned about the legal implications of my father being a fall risk rather than continuing his care. He did fall twice while under their care. He was hustled out of there to in-home Hospice more than 3 weeks before the surgeon recommended that he be released. No effort was made to review/ consider the expert’s opinion. Note that he was 89 & recovering from a fractured femur. Dad passed soon after discharge, while he still should been a patient. Furthermore, continued care was refused even when we requested to fully pay for his care outside of Medicare. The number of CNAs & nurses also needs to be doubled so that adequate care can be provided. This is what you get as a former doctor in the community. I can only imagine how it would have been for him if he was not.

Independent living is great! The assisted or full time care? Not so much!

My mom started in independent living for 3 years and that was great! Lots to do or not do, friends galore, one meal a day ( most folks it's around 4 pm) and a great apartment. The buy-in is steep and you need 3 times that to get on. You also need to be cleared by a dr. The independent living side is gove 5's for everything but value because if the steep buy in. My mom developed some dementia and fell in her apartment. She rehabbed in the rehab wing and it wasn't great. They don't seem motivated [Removed] folks back up and walking and many times you go in and people are begging you for an aid to change them! They also have folks passed out in their dinner and the nurses are mostly LPN's. It was not uncommon to see blister packs of meds on the floor next to the med carts. Also, the computers with patient information were often on in the hall for any passerby. After rehab they moved her to the memory wing - total one flew over the cuckoos nest! There was a guy in a chair with a puddle of urine under himself, another resident attaching another resident and staff seemed clueless, although nice enough. So independent living - high marks Rehab - low marks Memory center - lowest marks How they have managed to avoid an outbreak to date is beyond me! Each employee needs training on basic hand washing / glove use ASAP. They also need to be trained to protect residents!

Poor treatment at Health Center of Abbey Delray

Everything is fine here as long as you are healthy. The facilities are lovely and many people are friendly. But there is a big change when you can no longer live independently and are moved to Abbey’s Health Center. I am the adult child of two parents who died in Abbey Delray’s Health Center: 1. My mother had had surgery and was sent to the on-premises Health Center to recuperate, but she was placed in the Alzheimer's ward, where I found her sitting slumped over, ignored. There were a lot of people sitting slumped over and ignored at the Health Center. 2. After I had her room changed, my mother seemed to be improving, as long as she was getting physical therapy. But that stopped and she was left sitting in a wheelchair. A woman who was in the Health Center for a short recuperation whispered to me that the nurses there do as little as possible. I didn't believe her at the time... 3. Mom got repeated bladder infections, which I’ve been told happens from not being changed properly / enough. This was a chronic problem, and the infections eventually caused serious damage. 4. My father fell and was placed in the Health Center. He was lucky enough to get a nurse who was good, until she got injured. I visited and found him calling and calling to be helped to the bathroom. I asked for help, and a nurse appeared screaming at him. I reported her, and she was disciplined; the next time I visited, his diamond ring had disappeared. 5. From his frequent bladder infections and dehydration, my father was also repeatedly sent to the hospital where he caught the MRSA virus. My parents both died at Abbey’s Health Center, I believe sooner than they should have. While there are some wonderful people there, I give very low grades to Abbey’s Health Center for the above reasons.

Disappointing

Moving my Mom into this place was a big disappointment. We got a great deal but it was short lived. In our opinion, they were short staffed, inconsistent in staffing, not as well trained in memory care as we had thought, and overall, I'm not convinced it was safe for my mom. We are grateful she has gone on to a new place. Communication was not always clear here and promises were made that were not kept.

Please read before placing a loved one in Abbey Delray....

This review only allows me 1000 characters so I will be brief but unable to list all the issues that prevail at Abbey Delray during my Dad's 85 day stay there ultimately ending with his death 30 days after his discharge due to a NOMNC notice rudely given to us by a so called social worker who was rushed and didn't have time to give to the Family. 1) up to an hour and more delayed responses to call button requests 2) took two weeks to get proper wheel chair 3) removal of doctor from Dad's case after lack of proper care of Dad. 4) although contracted rehab team were basically doing a good job, Dad languished at the hands of abbey employees. 5) CNAs failed to assist Dad in going to the bathroom most of the time leaving Dad no choice but to go in his Diapers and then labeling him incontinent. 6) Administrators, directors and nurses giving lip service to the Family where the issues remained throughout Dad's entire stay. 7) Dad entered AD doing crosswords and left a man unable to stand

Do not recommend skilled nursing or assisted living

We had an awful experience with skilled nursing and AL. VOG was recommended to us, but it must have been for IL , because there is no way I would recommend AL or skilled nursing. The level of care in this facility is unacceptable. It is almost impossible to find any staff in the building at night. Staff has a generally negative attitude and does not show empathy or compassion towards the patients. Lots of "not my job." Often you see staff on their phones instead of caring for patients. If you push the call button for help, it typically was not responded to, it took us hunting someone down, or it was often over an hour before we would get help in the room. One day the staff did not even enter my parents room until 3:00 pm. The communication and coordination of services is horrible. If you are not looking out for your family member they will be left unfed and unclean. My parents and 5 other residents have moved out over the last 2 weeks. All stated unacceptable level of care.
