I found THE place.

Chris Neff was the most helpful of all that I visited. She also offered if this place was not for Mom, she would help me find one that was for her. Hers was the first I visited. When I completed the tour, I wanted to admit Mom then. But, I thought I should give other places an opportunity to see what they had to offer. I visited 4 other facilities. The facilities ranged from over the top to I wouldn't put her here! One place was full. This was the best fit for Mom. I am hoping for great things. And I have faith that this is a great place.

Incredible place

Prairie Winds did an absolutely unbelievable job taking care of my loved one, they were so much more than what I thought they would be. They've got an amazing care staff, and Jen, their LPN, really knows what she is doing and is great about keeping families up to date and informed about their loved ones. The facility itself is beautiful, and it's just a warm, family friendly environment. I'd recommend them to anyone!

Use Redirection Instead of Medication

I was looking for an upscale place because of my in-laws' lifestyle and Silverado fit the bill beautifully. This place is wonderful! My mother-in-law is going through physical therapy and want to return to living independently afterward. My father-in-law is there and he has a memory care issue. He is being taken care of very well. I'm very impressed with how they work with all the residents there and how they use redirection instead of medication. I'm totally in awe.

Staff very in tune with Dementia

We chose this community after visiting two others because it just felt right for my mother. It looked clean, felt clean and everyone there just seemed happy. The staff is in tune with dementia residents and try to help as best as they can. My mother believes she is the head nurse and when she tells the staff why they didn’t check with her about something the staff tells her she is right and they should have checked with her and they will do it next time. Just makes my mother so much happier then being told she has dementia and she is in a memory care community. The staff really does try and make it as best as an experience as they can for the residents. I was just up there yesterday and they had a country line dancing demonstration with most of them being in there 70’s, which was fun to watch and my mother loved it. The residents are about the same stage as my mother so we knew she would get along and would have someone to relate with. We walked in to Prairie Winds and just said “Wow! This is it!” The other two communities we looked at did not even compare. It is located on a busy street but once you get into the community you would not even know it is. My mother sometimes thinks she is in a monastery or a museum when she is sitting in the beautiful centrally located courtyard. The community is relatively new and is very well maintained. This community is a great value because I could not put a price on my mother’s happiness and my mother is extremely happy, which in turn makes me happy. It was a big relief off my chest knowing she was happy. Can’t tell you enough how happy we are with my mother in Prairie Winds.

Great care for a loved one - they have amazing abilities in managing dementia and challenges with communication.

Overall, its been a really great experience. The director is really great. The nurses always took great care of my loved one, even if she was resistant to their care. The Covid testing and restrictions they put in place were great to keep people safe. It was just really hard not to see my loved one with dementia for half a year. But that was Covid, and you couldn't really change anything about that. Heritage Point went above and beyond with their communication to our family. They answered calls day and night. They almost overcommunicated they were so on top of it. They would relay information in multiple forms - phone calls, texts, and emails. I would recommend them to others, and I have!

Peace of mind.

Our mother is one of the two original residents in Building B. The staff turnover was more than we had hoped for in the beginning, but several fine people did stay and we are so thankful for them. Caring for people with dementia and memory problems is difficult at times, and not for everyone. The newer staff members are also great and they keep things lively. Mom still gets to go on outings and she is always busy with activities, be it crafts, baking or participating in games. She has made several friends in the IRIS community and we can tell she feels connected. We feel that mom's health needs and meds are being monitored closely and that is a very important. Mom is happy when we see her and that is very comforting. We feel confident that the staff at IRIS is taking great care of mom which gives us peace of mind.

[Name removed] puts the "care" back into Memory Care

I moved my mother here from another memory care facility. [Name removed] puts the "care" back into Memory care. The Executive Director is an incredible leader, motivating and praising her staff. She sets the tone of caring and accountability. Leadership really matters in care facilities. The care staff is tremendous. Example: At a crowded holiday party, I walked my mom across the room for an activity without her walker because it was so bulky. I didn't want her to hit people with it while walking. When the activity was over, I helped mom up, and a staff member spotted us from 50 feet away and wheeled the walker over without being asked. That would never have happened at mom's former facility. The critical things in memory care are patience, kindness, friendliness, activities, appetizing food, no hurrying, and feeling like you are cared for, not like you are an inconvenient patient. Everything about [name removed], from the cleanliness to the smaller facility without confusing hallways to the open-concept where you can smell lunch cooking is built for the resident. But mostly it's the people. The activity director, the community engagement manager, everyone...they are all wonderful, and if they are not, they tend to self-select out. I would put myself in a place like this. [Name removed] gave my mom a much better life than she was having before. Unfortunately, my mom passed. But the evening she did and the day after, staff members were coming up to hug me, some with tears in their eyes. They really cared about mom and me.

MY WIFE'S NEW HOME

Iris has been a great help in taking my wife to her new home. The hardest thing I have ever had to do in our 52 years of marriage. They were very helpful in the move in, spent extra time with my wife to help her get comfortable. The staff is very accommodating when we visit or have questions. Our family is still getting adjusted to our new life with wife & mom being away from us but we are very glad of the place she is in. The management staff is very easy to deal with and available when needed. The facility is very, very nice and the small number of residents is a very big plus. I highly recommend Iris Memory Care!!!!

Review and Thank You 2/2017

February 2017 My sincere gratitude to all who work at Storey Oaks for their commitment to patients and their families. My father was admitted to Storey Oaks diagnosed with middle to late stage dimentia. It has been very difficult to go through this process. The staff there have been very flexible to my father and mother's needs, implementing different strategies to help them overcome specific challenges that are unique to my father's condition. Numerous times they have reached out to my mother to assist her with some of the heartbreaking moments that occur during this transition in their lives. Thank you so much for all your efforts!

Would recommend

We are doing very well at Iris Memory Care of Edmond. I would tell others if you move your loved one in here to make sure and write their names on their clothing items. A lot of times when they do laundry it gets mixed up and his clothes go missing or he gets someone elses. Overall I would recommend this facility to others looking.
