Wonderful Care for my Stroke Survivor & Dementia Mom

I moved my mom into Storey Oaks almost 3 months ago and have been very impressed with the staff there. They are kind, caring, and I have never seen anyone there be rude or in a bad mood towards my mom. Everyone there seems mindful and happy with their jobs. The management also respects its employees, which is so important in the general atmosphere of a nursing home, and directly relates to the treatment of your loved one. They are great at handling her carefully, as she is partially paralyzed and requires full assistance. I live out of town and they communicate with me about any issues that come up with her, and are willing to listen. And they can manage her special diet and swallowing issues with meals that she actually likes. The facility itself is also not too big, so the residents get a good amount of attention and personal care, and aren't just a number in a long hallway. Finding the right situation for my mom with all her care needs has been a real challenge for me, and I'm very grateful to have called A Place for Mom and to have found Storey Oaks. There are so many factors to a good nursing home and Storey Oaks has checked off all the boxes for me so far and I feel reassured that I don't have to worry all the time.

A caring small community

A small family-like community ... super casual, informal and relaxed making it feel just like home. It has Literally TONS of activities that aren't just "entertainment "or "distraction" but tools to make the residents feel useful, needed and valued..... all attended to both a caring staff that does a superb job of communicating with me as a family member too.

We are very pleased!

My sister has resided at Iris Memory Care of Edmond for six months. Every time we visit, I am more convinced that we made the right decision in choosing Iris for her care. She was furious about being placed in memory care, but Iris staff members have been wonderful at helping her adapt and feel at home. For the most part she is now content there. She'll say things like, "Why, this hotel has everything you could possibly need!" or "If you have to be in the hospital, this is the one to be in because everyone is so NICE to you here!" I like that there are planned activities every day. My sister doesn't often choose to participate, but I'm glad there are fun things to do and outings to go on, if she so desires. All in all, an excellent choice!

An Experienced & Loving Community

My husband has been a resident at Iris for 11 months and I feel that he is loved and well cared for by their staff. I don't know what I expected, but I have found Iris to be a community that not only tends to their residents' needs, but also has a great support network for the residents' families. The administrators are all on site and often assisting the staff and interacting with the residents. They have also made it clear that they can be reached for advice or concerns at any time. I would highly recommend Iris Memory Care of Edmond to anyone needing dementia related care for their loved one.

We ended up placing my dad in Iris after trying a Memory Care center a little closer to home. Iris was a much better fit for our whole family! My dad is a difficult case and they were patient with him and worked with my family to find the best way to care for him. The whole staff always made my mom feel welcome and part of the family. We wish we would have made the switch sooner, but we are glad we found it now!

My Mom and Dad are here

When I had to move both parents to memory care at the same time, the staff at Iris made a difficult transition go more smoothly than I would have expected. All of the staff are very caring and engaged with the residents. They have also been responsive to my concerns and requests. This is a nice place and the food is good too.

Peace of Mind

My mother has been a resident at Iris (previously Silverado) for over two years. The staff at Iris treat her with respect and love. They actually care about her and want her to have the most fulfilling life that she can under the circumstances. They have so many activities to keep Mama engaged and active. They're really good at gently encouraging her to do things that are outside of her comfort zone. I have total peace of mind when I am not with my mom, because I know that she is truly being taken care of.

Iris is The Best

Between my mother-in-law and my mom, I have personal experience with five senior care homes. Iris Memory Care in Edmond is by far the best. It came highly recommended by the social worker at the geriatric psychiatric ward my mom was treated at. When my brother and I visited, the staff spent a lot of time with us answering our questions. My brother and I also knew two families with loved ones at Iris, and both families were very pleased with their care. Once we moved our mom to Iris, we were surprised and extremely pleased with the environment and her care. Iris has a unique setting, in that their executives’ offices are right there with residents’ rooms, and the executives are hands on in helping to care for the residents. At my mom’s former assisted living home, the attitude seemed to be waiting for her to pass. At Iris, she experienced life again. She loved to walk, and staff spent the time walking with her! She was included in many outings like Braum’s and even the circus, even though she was in the advanced, final stages of Alzheimer’s Disease. Her quality of life was the absolute best it could be during her last months of life, and for that we are so grateful! Communication is so important to me, and the staff did a wonderful job calling and texting to keep me informed of Mom’s care. I don’t know that anyplace can replace home, but through our experience, I believe that Iris is the absolute next best thing! I will forever be grateful to them for what they did for Mom!

Just what mom needed.

My mother has very high functioning vascular dementia and Storey Oaks has been a God-send to us. She came from a skilled nursing facility in a mid-sized town and they just didn't know what to do with her. Once we found Storey Oaks, my sister and I both knew this was the place mom needed to be. She has blossomed creatively and socially. There are many activities that interest her. Mom loves animals and there are 2 bunnies that the residents care for. I have been able to bring mom's cat up for a visit and, on a separate occasion, my own dogs. The staff is a good team and they know each resident and care for them personally according to their memory needs.

Review of Iris Memory Care

I toured several memory care facilities and settled on Iris. I was impressed with the small size and low resident to staff ratio. Everything is first class. Residents are engages in many structured activities and treated with frequent day time trip outings. The facility is always clean and the meals are great.

Toured here and was impressed with the layout of the facility, cozy is the best description. I liked that they had a day program which I will be use for my husband. The freedom to walk in the courtyards, the very family-like atmosphere is what really sold me on the place. There are sweet, lovable dogs and they do kitten fostering where the residents are involved.

Dad's journey at Iris

Probably one of the hardest decisions my brother and I have ever had to make was putting our father in a facility where he would receive the care he needed. We, too, looked at various places and finally settled on Iris Memory Care because of the concern, not only shown for our father, but for us as well. Shortly after my dad's arrival, though, there were several changes that took place that caused us some concern. However, the new staff made every effort to put us at ease and with time has proven to us that the care of our father is still of the utmost importance. Because I live out of the country, they have had to make extra efforts in keeping me informed on the progress of my dad and have done so faithfully. In short, they have gained our trust. While the beautiful facilities were a drawing factor (we did not want a place that looked like a nursing home), the fact that Dad has improved since beginning his journey at Iris is the highest praise I can give them.

Iris for 97 year old mother-in-law with dementia

My mother-in-law, [name removed], moved into Iris in May from a rehabilitation center in Oklahoma City because of a broken hip. The staff was great with helping us to get her settled into her new home. We chose Iris over other memory care centers because of the resident interaction we saw when visiting. [Name removed] has enjoyed being in the middle of the action and seems most content to be there. The staff all seem to have a real love for the elderly and Alzheimer’s patients. Iris has planned activities and also bring in entertainment from outside that the residents really enjoy. We’ve been pleased with everything so far.

Peaceful Place

My family looked at about 12 memory care facilities in the Edmond area and have been so thankful that we found Iris in the search! They have been wonderful with our mother! We love the staff, we love the smaller size of the facility and we are very impressed with the Executive Director! We finally have peace about mom’s living conditions and know that she is being taken care of in a way that we would if we could be with her everyday! Thanks IRIS!
