Successfully transitioning my parents from their home of 40 years into independent living.

My parents seem pretty happy. It's been a really good experience getting them in quickly and transitioning them. The staff has been very friendly. It feels like a very secure place for my parents. The apartments are nice - very roomy, very clean, with newer appliances. The maid service is really good. The other residents have been very nice. They reach out to my parents and introduce themselves and have been great at making them feel welcome. And that has been really good for them. Really the only negative was some early morning starts to construction going on there, but that was just temporary.... Read more

Not real

This community is a let down, but residents are very nice. A lot of the information written in their advertising materials is misleading. Building halls smell like fecal matter, some of the staff is nice but that’s not enough to make up for the disappointment in the overall experience. The rent is high for what you get.The food is beyond tasteless, and terribly overpriced. Plus, they list the meal at a special price. One that actually seems reasonable since the food is like a bad Elementery school cafeteria type experience , but that is just for the meat portion. It is a trick it appears to be a special meal price but then you find out that each item is charged separately.over $20.a plate but is listed at $8.a plate [name removed]the manager knows and has been told by residents & staff that this is deceiving but he leaves it like this to continue to deceive new potential residents. In addition, the events offered are found wanting, day excursions are now canceled because the shuttle is broken.

Review of Watercrest at Katy

We chose Watercrest at Katy because of the value of the money, you are able to pick and choose what you want and can add things on. My mom has the smallest apartment available and it is ok, she wants to move to the next size up and that one is really nice.

Our Tour Experience

Our tour at Watercrest at Katy was disappointing. I didn’t feel they were upfront with the cost. They gave us a figure, and then started adding to it instead of giving us the correct figure to begin with.

Response from Watercrest at Katy

Happy with my choice

I chose Watercrest at Katy because of the location, the cost, availability, and I just liked the overall feel of it. I am in a 2 bedroom 2 bathroom apartment that is about 1,000 square feet and it is perfect for me and it would be perfect for 2 people as well. The facility is kind of far out,but there is a water park up the road that causes some pretty heavy traffic and sometimes. There is a lot of building going on out here and it has great access to Katy Mills mall and about anywhere you want to go on I-10. I am happy with my experience and would recommend them.

Good place for loved ones

The staff members there would be a 10 out of 10, they are just wonderful. Our loved one enjoys the food, and they are trying their best with the activities. She enjoys that she can visit with her neighbors, as well as good outside for walks around the grounds. Anytime she gets a delivery from the pharmacy they call her immediately and they are always calling her to check in and make sure everything is going good.

Nice place but the added occupant fee is not realistic for us, this fee offsets the free utilities and cable bill. I would love to live here but financially for us, this is not doable. But if I had the resources I would live here. There are other Perks that make this property a nice place to live.

The only negative we had is the location - so near Katy Mills Mall and Waterpark - traffic? But [name removed] gave us an abundance of time and a great tour! The place itself is awesome - LOVED the floor plan of the villas - all 2 bdrm/2 bath + study and attached one-car garage. Complex is gated! Very interested.

Really loved this place! It is beautiful and the staff and residents were very friendly. There are so many activities to choose from and all the residents seemed happy and involved. Price is affordable and includes breakfast and 5 meals a month. A lot is included in the base price and you are able to add amenities as needed at a cost. This enables you to stay within your budget. When a decision is made to move to independent living, this will probably be the place!

Village at Watercrest

I live in the Village, not in the "Big House". Let me make it perfectly clear: I am pleased with my choice of Watercrest Katy. But: When we made the initial visit, we got the idea that this was an "active senior" complex. After awhile it became clear that most residents are not as active as anticipated. It appears there are lot of residents that require walkers wheelchairs and scooters as they are not able to walk without assistance. It is difficult to attend a large gathering without walking thru a maze of these devices. I understand they will accept hospice treated residents. These are definitely not active! When we chose Watercrest Katy, we wanted a place where we could meet people close to our ages (80's) and participate in activities. The first was accomplished, the second not so much. As an example, I wanted to do Tai Chi but the only sessions are done setting down. I have witnessed Tai Chi in many countries and local places, but is has always been done standing. Hmmmmm When activities are done for limited participants, a signup is required.. The signup is in the "big House" which makes it difficult for Villagers to signup easily. Maybe electronic signups?? Hmmmm The landscaping in the Village was in good shape when we first visited but now (June 2019) it is deplorable. The flower/bush beds are overgrown, filled with weeds and needs mulching as well as more attention. Exterior painting, on doors, garage doors, railings, gates and outside trim needs attention. I am confident that in due time all of these can/will be rectified.

I found it hard to find my way around. The layout of the community was a bit confusing. My daughter is intellectually challenged and this may be a problem for her if she wanted to leave the apartment alone. I did not like the meal arrangements at all. Only one free meal and pay for lunch and/or dinner. Dining room not open for dinner. Had to pay your own electricity, but cable TV offer good. The apartment I toured was satisfactory and I liked that there were some wood floors. The patio was too small and closed in. Wasn't sure about parking fees or locations. Not enough amenities for us and I'm dropping it from my list.

Thank you so much for sharing your feedback with us. While we’re glad you enjoyed all we have to offer, we’re disappointed to hear that you were deterred by our no smoking policy. We certainly respect and support individual preferences, but one of our key objectives is to preserve the health and well-being of our residents, team members and guests. We believe the benefits of our policy outweigh its inconveniences, but please don’t hesitate to reach out to us at any time with questions or comments about this, or any other aspects of our community. All the best!

Thank you for taking the time to visit our community. We know you have considerable retirement options in the Houston area. Our residents love that all our hallways are indoors and climate controlled, including those leading to our dining room. If you’d like any additional information or assistance with the retirement planning process, please just let us know. We hope you’ll stop by again in the near future.

Everything about this facility was great!

I took a tour here and the facility is fabulous. The pricing is reasonable, the grounds were beautiful, and the apartments were lovely. However, the building itself was huge and I was concerned with the possibility of my Mom getting lost. The person that gave us the tour was a lot of fun and knew everything about everything. It seemed like they had plenty of activities going on and even had these fabulous bungalows in the back of the facility that were 2 bedrooms. Everything was brand new, state of the art, and just wonderful. It is strictly independent living, but you have the option to bring in home health care if it’s needed. I didn’t move my Mom in, but just from what I’ve seen, I would recommend this place.
