We are paying way less here than her previous facility for a much bigger apartment and they waived the community fee for us as well. The apartment she got was just redone with new paint and flooring and it is bright with a lot of windows in it. My mom fell in love the minute that she saw it. We have had an issue with the food, it is institutional and the chef is not accommodating to requests that we make so that has been frustrating. That is the only downfall though, otherwise it is a very vibrant community and the residents are always outside and socializing with one another. I thought Truewood by Merrill River Park was a nice place, nothing fancy. Which is actually the type of environment my mom prefers. It's a really intimate setting - a smaller community with not a lot of residents, and it felt really homey. The people seemed really nice. And they had a really good sales guy. It was a lot more expensive though, and they didn’t have a room available. But if they had, that's the place we would have chosen.

This is a pretty good deal for a community for you or your loved one. The tour was very informative and pleasant.

Hi there, thank you for taking the time to leave this review! We appreciate it.
We really liked the community when we walked in; however, the memory care unit it wasn't as open as the other side of the community. It felt dismal and dreary for our loved one.
I had a wonderful experience at first. It's a beautiful place. However, I did not like the month-to-month lease. Also the gate was broken, so someone kept coming in stealing cars and slashing tires. If it weren't for those two things, I would have stayed.

Hello, thank you for taking the time to leave this review. We always appreciate the feedback.
Our family had an in person tour and the community is so close that we could actually walk to it. We were very impressed and pleased by everything we saw and learned on our tour. The rooms that were shown to us were beautifully decorated. The meal we had for lunch was really good, however we ended up not choosing this community because the activities were in a different building. Our loved one is completely blind and getting him in/out of a car is a tall task, so we asked how they would get the residents to and from the activities building and they said if they are close enough they would use wheelchairs, but if the residents are to far away then they would use a golf cart. We just thought they would be to difficult and stressful for our loved one.

I'm pretty satisfied with it. The people have been great. They're very friendly. However, maintenance has not been good. It's hard to get anything done. The outside needs to be updated and better maintained. It's not bad, but it could be better. Inside the apartments they do an excellent job. Unfortunately they can't seem to keep a manager here. The current one has been here 5-6 months and is leaving. There have been four managers in two years, and I'm not sure why. If the residents don't organize activities, then there aren't any. Some of the resident-run activities are bingo, exercise programs, and jewelry making. The people really are great here. If weren't for them, I don't know if I'd stay. But everybody is so friendly here.

Hello, thank you for taking the time to leave this review and for the feedback.
We didn't care for Courtyards at River Park. They didn't provide meals 7 days a week. The rooms weren't functional in the way they were set up - they were just very small. It felt dirty there. I thought it was overpriced for what they had to offer. Also they were going through some management changes. It was a brand new person showing us around and talking to us, and we felt she had a disconnect around the type of living the people who come here need.

Hello, thank you for taking the time to leave this review. We always appreciate feedback.
We have not seen any red flags so far with the cleanliness of the community, and so far our loved one is enjoying the meals and dining service. So far she is also enjoying the activities, she likes bingo, the arts and crafts and the trips to the stores. A lot of variety with the activities. The value for cost is really good and we would recommend this community to others.

I live here. I’ve looked this site over and I’d say over half the things they say they have, they don’t. Some of the pictures I don’t even recognize as being here. The grounds that were beautiful are all dead. There’s hardly any staff. Every thing done for you is a extra fee. Beware of that. There’s very little maintenance and the place is getting old and badly needs upgrading. Half of one building was wrecked in February ice storm and is still half empty. They’re trying to fill it with dementia patients - with no staff. Do your homework. Notice that most good reviews were written long ago. And “a place for mom” refused to take my information. I used to trust them but no longer. They don’t have updated info and don’t want it. BEWARE anything they reccomend. You need to get out and look on your own, unfortunately. This place is toxic. No one stays - they move, or they die, from poor care. Don’t trust A Place for Mom. They should be ashamed.

It's a beautiful setting. It's peaceful. The residents have the opportunity to interact with others or stay in their apartment. They have a lot of activities going on, and there's always something to do every day. My loved one likes the food, and it's plentiful. It is an older building, so you do have some issues with that. But they are quick to respond to any needs.
The apartments were tiny. The activities were in different buildings, and this didn't make it appealing to participating in them.
I love it here, the people are so friendly. I have met a lot of really nice ladies, we meet our in our courtyard which is a very pretty setting. It is an older community but they are working no renovations. It is a pet friendly facility. To get us in here they offered us a really good deal. However they did lie to us on a couple of things - we wanted a two-bedroom apartment on the bottom floor because of our dog and they said they would put us on the waiting list, but come to find out they don't have any two-bedroom apartments at all on the bottom floor. Also unless you have a serious maintenance problem they are not quick to respond.
I am happy as a clam here. The activities seem to be well thought out, there is a wide variety of things to choose from and the residents all seem to enjoy them. We are shut down right now due to covid, but I am not complaining because that shows that they really care about the residents and our well-being. There is a long time employee who takes care of the kitchen and she is the heart of the community, she keeps up with everyone and knows all of the residents. They do have scheduled transportation, but I have kept my car since they do not charge you unless you get a covered garage. I am so pleased, my apartment is more than adequate for my needs. I would highly recommend them to other who are looking.
Courtyards is way cheaper than any other community in the area, especially for everything they offer and all the great amenities. The community is very pretty and always well maintained. The gardens are maintained well and everything is surrounded by flowers. It is just so pretty.
Ask a lot of questions or look somewhere else. I feel that I didn't get the straight answers when I moved in here.
My 97 year old aunt lived here in the Memory Care facility. She had clearly defined and legal DNR orders in place. When she was found unresponsive by the very sweet med tech, the tech was instructed to call 911 by the on-call licensed nurse. When EMS arrived, my aunt was RESUSCITATED even though they were given the printed DNR order! I have spoken with the medical director of EMS and they are revising protocols and retraining staff. When attempting to discern the protocol in place at The Courtyards, just getting a return call was problematic. It was very apparent that there was no written protocol with which the licensed staff was familiar. After calling corporate headquarters, I did receive a return call and was told that as they were not staffed with a licensed nurse 24/7, their "normal process' was to call 911 unless the patient is on hospice. If you want your loved one's wishes honored, you should apparently have them on hospice care.......
This one we toured, very nice!
My family and I have been more than satisfied with this facility. The staff is very professional and personable. I could not have found a place more suited to my needs. I am enjoying my stay and highly recommend it to others looking for a Senior facility that meets all your personal needs.
