My dad loves the food and the staff at Truewood by Merrill, River Park. They are all so sweet to him and helpful, if his TV isn't working or any other small thing. The housekeeping is good and they are very friendly. The activities are so much fun for him, especially on Fridays when they have music and dancing. I would definitely recommend this facility to family and friends!... Read more

Improvements: The menu could be better. They serve salad as the main course almost every dinner and they require an hours notice before an meal for alternatives. This doesn't work very well for my Dad, who has memory problems and special diet restrictions. The staff also refuses to remind him and get his menu changes even though his care plan specifically says he gets reminders. The cost is really high for the care being received. If the laundry staff member doesn't show up, his laundry isn't done until the following week. There are no mitigation steps to get caught back up.

The main reason we chose Truewood by Merrill River Park was because it is close to a family member that lives nearby. I live out of state and have not actually been inside of the facility. With me living out of state, the staff have been wonderful! I get texts and calls with any updates. My dad seems to be doing well here and I know that he is being well taken care of. I would recommend Truewood River Park to others.

My mother had a great experience at Truewood River Park. She made friends, both with other residents and staff. The apartment was a good size and laid out well. I appreciated that the main doors to her building were locked after hours. She also enjoyed being able to sit outside near the River with her friends.

They can improve on, staffing and communication. It was affordable for what we needed. Though I was quoted one price. Then they tried to increase the price, I told them that was not what I was quoted and they brought it down. Activities they had to go to another building to participate. Under their care my loved one's insurance was changed, when the pharmacist brought it to my attention and I mentioned it someone changed it back. They terminated his med benefits when he moved when they somehow moved him back to traditional Medicare. It was awful. It started out great when looking at the property and went downhill from the day my loved one moved in.

There is never any staff at the desk to help with any problems that arise. The food is sub par, and when they recently went into lockdown for a surge in coronavirus, we were never notified and food was served to the residents in their rooms. There was no notification of the lockdown and last minute plans had to be made to take my loved one to Walmart. The only reason I recommend this place to family and friends, is price. For the price you pay, don't expect anything above the minimum.

The intake coordinator was very friendly, although I understand that's her job in sales. It's a good price. It has potential, but It needs upgrading. They've had some bigger maintenance issues like burst pipes and electrical problems. In general, maintenance requests are not handled quickly. They just got a new chef, but the food and food service are not good. They don't have many activities for the residents. When there are confirmed cases of Covid in the building, they don't have any type of protocol for visitors or residents. They just encourage people to wash their hands. I think they should be doing more about it.

The meals are delivered in a box, so the residents can eat the food in the dining room, or take it back to their room. My loved one doesn't care that the meals are no longer being served in the dining room. The community could use some additional staff to assist in the dining room as well. The community doesn't have good internal communication about payments and when the mail is received. This could be improved for the residents and family. It would be nice to have more housekeeping and the cleaning of the carpets in the community. There is a activities calendar that is provided to the residents to know what is being offered. My loved one is happy here.

My dad is profoundly deaf. Many of the activities are not accommodating to his hearing loss. They do have lots of activities and outings it's just that my dad doesn't participate since he can't hear.

This is a nice community and has a good value for the money. The variety of meals and food available is something that could be improved for the residents. Dinner is served at 4:30 which seems very early for some residents. The dining hours could be extended as well to accommodate some of the residents in the community. Some of the activities available include: field trips to stores, bingo, exercise classes, holiday celebrations, and more for the residents to participate in.

September 8, 2022Hi Chris, Thank you for taking the time to leave us this review. We appreciate the feedback.
We were not here very long, only a few months because mom passed away - but she did enjoy her time while she was here. The staff were always very friendly. I always felt welcome into the facility as a family member as well.

Response from Truewood by Merrill, River Park
August 31, 2022Hi Catherine, thank you for taking the time to leave us this review. We appreciate it greatly.
I thought Truewood by Merrill River Park was a nice place, nothing fancy. Which is actually the type of environment my mom prefers. It's a really intimate setting - a smaller community with not a lot of residents, and it felt really homey. The people seemed really nice. And they had a really good sales guy. It was a lot more expensive though, and they didn’t have a room available. But if they had, that's the place we would have chosen.
Response from Truewood by Merrill, River Park
June 30, 2022Hi MK, thank you for taking the time to leave us this review. We are happy to hear you would have chosen Truewood for your Mom, and hope you find a great place for her to live.
We are paying way less here than her previous facility for a much bigger apartment and they waived the community fee for us as well. The apartment she got was just redone with new paint and flooring and it is bright with a lot of windows in it. My mom fell in love the minute that she saw it. We have had an issue with the food, it is institutional and the chef is not accommodating to requests that we make so that has been frustrating. That is the only downfall though, otherwise it is a very vibrant community and the residents are always outside and socializing with one another. There is a wide variety of people because they have independent living, assisted living, and memory care provided. We would definitely recommend.

Response from Truewood by Merrill, River Park
March 21, 2022Hi there, thank you for taking the time to leave this review! We appreciate it.
We really liked the community when we walked in; however, the memory care unit it wasn't as open as the other side of the community. It felt dismal and dreary for our loved one.
I had a wonderful experience at first. It's a beautiful place. However, I did not like the month-to-month lease. Also the gate was broken, so someone kept coming in stealing cars and slashing tires. If it weren't for those two things, I would have stayed.
