The staff members are friendly and nice to work with, and have been very nice and patient with our loved one. The meals and dining service seem to be pretty good. When it comes to activities they have bingo, arts and crafts as well as a hair salon which is really nice. Out of other communities in the area this one is definitely the most reasonably priced. However the house keeping could definitely be improved especially before a resident moves in.... Read more

I would say if your parent needed more care, this may not be the place for you… If their parent was fairly self-sufficient, they would do "OK" there. I have to say that they did call if there was something wrong. But a lot of the things, that they said they would do were ignored on a lot of occasions. The administrative staff were very friendly, and told us a lot of what we wanted to hear, but I did not have a lot of faith that things were being done as they were supposed to be.

Response from The Westland House
March 3, 2023Thank you for your review. I agree with you on our housekeeping. We've had issues finding good housekeeping staff. We are currently recruiting for a new housekeeping team and recently hired 2 wonderful new housekeepers. Needed progress is being made in this area. Thanks again for your feedback. We cant improve unless we are aware. these honest and candid reviews are helpful.
The sales person [name removed] who we dealt with gave us a lot of information that was false which we had found out once our loved one moved in. Everything they said would be provided offered, expected, even just briefly mentioned to us was false, Only good thing was the meals and dining service.

Response from The Westland House
March 3, 2023Thank you for the candid review. I'm sorry to hear your experience wasn't what you expected. I am one of the owners and Id like to hear Please feel free to email me your contact info so I can hear the details of your concerns and address issues. I receive all the emails from our website so email me through the website and I will reach out to schedule a call at your convenience.
When it comes to the quality of the care that seems to be good but we have had a lot of problems with mediation management. For the value it's just right in the middle there is not much going on at the moment. We are hoping the activities improved with their new hire. Our loved one is also not happy with the meals - we think the preparation might be fine but the meals overall are just not good.

My mother was there for 2 1/2 months. The care was substandard. I got her out of there as soon as I realized it was not getting any better. Administration avoids or passes the buck . I would absolutely not recommend this place, regardless of any aesthetic renovations they may be making. The actual care is severely lacking. DO NOT BE FOOLED by the rosy walk through picture they are painting . That is to get you in there. Think long and hard and please need my warning.

Wonderful tour experience, they may not have granite counters but they have staff that cares tremendously about all your loved ones there. They met all our expectations and more. Our tour was simply spectacular

Response from The Westland House
January 27, 2023Thank you for the feedback. We try our best to deliver good consistent care in a comfortable environment.
I thought The Westland House was going to be the perfect fit for my loved one. They took us into the bedroom and the window in there was from the floor to the ceiling. For some reason she was worried about falling out of the window, so that was the only drawback, it kind of freaked her out.
Response from The Westland House
January 27, 2023I'm sorry the window worried your mom. its too bad we didn't have something on the first floor for her. Sadly all of the upper floors have at least 1 ceiling to floor window. thank you for the thoughtful review even though we weren't a fit we value the feedback.
To all future families considering assisted living - you need to understand the different between what exactly assisted living is and what is not! Even what you see as being advertised may not actually be the case, it may not be happening and meet the expectations your family has.

Response from The Westland House
January 27, 2023I'm sorry it wasn't what you expected. we do our best to be transparent about the level of care we can provide which is governed by the state of Michigan. In some cases, for safety and regulatory reasons, we are forced to move people to a higher level skilled nursing facility. Our goal it always to try and care for our residents ourselves. However its not always possible. I am happy to hear more about your specific situation should you want to share with me. I can be reached at The Westland House 734-326-6537
The general care is fine. However, they dropped the ball big time on meds, and my person one has been without hers for two months, which has caused big problems. There are absolutely no activities, within the facility our outside of it. They don't offer any transport if residents need to get anywhere. The cost is pretty average. The meals look great. The staff is nice. The place is clean and well kept. There is a lot of good there, but it's just not working out for my person.

It was a nice place but the location was a bit further. It was a largerplace. They did not offer, the care services that my loved one needed.
My loved one, has received expert care and is in a good environment for their situation. My loved one seems to be thriving there and we feel confident that they are being well taken care of.

The finances and communication is horrible, the staff there never seem to want to engage with the residents of the visiting families. It is not a lockdown facility so when you walk through the door they don't even really acknowledge you and usually there is no one at the front desk. Its a multi-story building and half the time the elevators or broken. When our loved one moved in the room was not even ready, half the staff had left so the maintenance guy was doing everything. There were barely any nurses there so inconsistency with care.

There are a few staff she likes but she feels ignored by some of the others. They did miss giving her medications on a few different occasions. There are definitely some improvements that they could make.

In the beginning we were very hopeful because they were renewing the whole place and making updates. They could not take care of my loved one like they said that they could. She was in a shared room and in the shared room the staff would forget to bring her meals. Her meds got messed up all the time too. They said they were fully staffed but they were not. The main nurse quit and no one let me know. My loved one fell and still to this day no one has called to let me or hospice to let us know that it had happened, the communication was non-existent. There were 15 covid cases inside of the facility and we never got an email or anything to let us know. It was one nightmare after the other, the place was completely disorganized. I never got a call after she had passed either.

Nice place overall with many great residents. Staff is friendly, nice and caring. Many activities to pick from and participate in. Food gives you options to pick from at service time.

The Westland House was a bit of an older facility. If you had limited income this would be a fine place. The size is decent and they seemed to be fully staffed. The staff who showed us around were very nice and informative.
It is important to keep in mind they are in a state of transition right now and things are changing. Most of changes that I have noticed though are all for the good. They are in the process of refurbishing the whole facility and making some nice updates. My loved one absolutely loves the food that they serve. I would recommend The Westland House to other families looking.

They seem pretty disorganized. My loved one arrived with a sore and now it has gotten much worse because the staff did not care for it. It is a good facility if your loved one does not need a lot of help, but if they need more care I would not recommend them.

My loved one was only here one week for respite care. They did miss medications one night and my loved one fell and no one reported it to us. I think that is something that definitely should have been communicated. If we had to do it again I would not bring my loved one back here.

We went with Westland House because we had a relative who was here and a friend who had their mom here and they had good experiences with the facility. I really like that the pay is all inclusive so you do not have all these add on fees for everything, especially since we needed 24 hour care. My mom has the best room, her back door opens up to the woods. The studio is a perfect size and has worked out great for her. The staff are all super friendly and the minute we walk in they greet us. They have plenty of activities such as bingo, church services, entertainment, etc. but my mom does not participate. They just opened their beauty salon back up and the stylist is there Thursdays and Fridays and the cost is very reasonable. I would recommend them to others depending on what your needs are.
