Our family had an horrifying experience with American House and we would never recommend this community to other families. Our loved ones room was rarely cleaned and had a very strong smell of urine in it. They rarely fed our loved one or helped our loved one eat. They were attentive whatsoever and just ignored our loved one in every area. We could not trust this place at all.

We didn't make it past the front door due to the horrible smell.

the front desk staff at American House are very friendly, but there is a serious problem with the aides who work here. there were many many many times when my aunt was not taken care of in the morning. the lack of morning care would go on for hours and my aunt would end up sitting in her own waste by the end of the day. we noticed that this was also the case with other residents. there's a woman who works with either the pharmacy or as a med tech by the name of [name removed]. something was not right with her. she or they were always "running out" of my aunts pain medication, but no other medication she had was ever short. I'm not making any accusations, just saying that it was odd... my aunt had an emergency pendant necklace that she would press if she needed assistance with going to the bathroom or help with getting up and about. the response time was 15-30mins, but when they came to help they would turn it off upon leaving. so often times my aunt had to turn it back on and she may not have known it was off in other moments. simple things that we thought would be taken care of with patience and love here weren't, and it was just very frustrating. the food was okay and the room was nice. the bathroom did not have what I would consider to be a handicapped shower. it was regular sized with a shower curtain - that she had to provide by the way. the shower could barely fit a shower chair, let alone a walker. in the entire time she was there, she was never able to take a shower in her bathroom because it wasn't accommodating. from what we could tell, it looked like they were updating the bathrooms. they may be out of code and are now trying to fix it, I'm not sure. they would have meetings where they addressed our concerns, or when things went wrong they would apologize and say "it won't happen again". it seems as if almost no action ever came from the resolutions they provided us. [name removed] the med tech/pharmacy liaison would say to us "its your aunt, not our people". this was inappropriate to say because my aunt had 100% of her mental capacity, she was only there for her physical needs. my aunt was not forgetful and shouldn't have been blamed for the shortcomings of others. overall I would advise others to not judge this place by its cover; it looks great on the outside, but not so much on the inside. there are some situations going on here that should be looked into.

We toured American House and thought it was a 3.5. We chose another community because American House had more of a nursing home feel.
We have people in here that should not be here. Most of the time they don't know where they are. I am tired of babysitting . We have no one to help us after 7 or 5.
Nice place with kind and friendly staff. Residents are friendly and participate in many activities
Our family had an in person tour and it was a good tour, we liked how they were going to change to all day meals rather than having meals at specific times during the days.
Generally our loved one is well taken care of because we are vigilante and always bring up any concerns we have. We have had issues with our loved ones medication that we needed to go up to cooperate to get resolved which was very frustrating. We also were told that the care takers had extensive and extreme training with memory care patients, but we felt miss lead by that. We have not overly been pleased, a lot of times we see the care takers on their phones and not circulating around the community looking after the residents. However, on a plus the activities director is phenomenal, fabulous and really engages the people and tries so hard to bring on new activities. Everyone at the front desk is great, the place is pretty clean and overall our loved one in content. Hands on care - needs to be more responsive to the suggestions and questions.

If you hate your loved one, then look no further, this is the place for you to move them. If your loved one enjoys laying on the floor after a fall for hours on end with no one to come to their rescue, please apply today! If your loved one requires memory care and you want them to be unsupervised for 24 hours or you want them sitting in a dark room in their pajamas and filth all day, this place will fulfill your wildest dreams. If your loved one prefers zero mental or physical stimulation and unkind/untrained "medical professionals" taking care of them, please consider hiring the med team. If you're like me, and all you want in the world is for the person you love to be cared for with kindness, compassion, and proper training, then myself and my entire family would strongly suggest that you run as far as your legs will take you to get away from this absolute abomination of a "living facility". Terrible food, cold and heartless care team. Just awful. A year of misery.

Our first tour. I prefer the studios in the back building. They are adequate. Nothing too fancy, just what is needed. They do have a fall protocol in place. The price is good. The care is provided by a third party. That is my biggest concern.

They even had activities throughout the pandemic. I would recommend the community to others. It is an affordable option. It worked great having another contact with our loved one from a different agency. When the pandemic hit, this caregiver wasn't able to come in and see our loved one. The personal assistant through the community was not the same as what my loved one had experienced in the past with his other caregiver.

You get what you pay for. This middle-of-the-road value. communication overall is good although they do have a different contact for each of the services we use. I would recommend this community to others.

I would tell people to stay away from this community. My loved one was a diabetic. If you didn't make sure everything was there for your loved one, the staff wouldn't do anything. My loved one wandered off and they didn't know that my loved one left the community. They called us asking if we knew where our loved one was at.

We had a horrible experience with American House Westland Venoy Senior Living. They stole from us many times. As the pandemic progressed, it was harder to get into the community to get my mothers stuff out. I called and let them know that I was going to move her stuff out as soon as I could come in to get it. They called back and said that her stuff was gone. They stole the things they were able to carry out and left the heavy furniture. I reported them to the police and after trying to work with them, they started getting nasty towards me. I would not recommend this facility to anyone.

You can walk in and it smells good. It is a nice little community. My mother in law loves it. She has friends. The Covid-19 restrictions have been hard on her, she misses her family. They take really good care of the residents. My mother in law likes the food. We don't worry we know she is being taken care of.

Liked American House with the exception of no doctors or nurses on site to check on people living there. Basically an apartment complex
