The Brookside Stone Mountain community is always very clean when we come to visit and the staff members are great. When we speak with our loved one she says she loves the meals and dining service. Right now they do not have an activities director so they are failing at that, but we hope once they do hire someone that will improve quickly. Compared to other communities in the area the overall value is great and based on what we have experience so far we would recommend this community to other families.... Read more

Brookside stone mountain was close by and that's the only positive thing I can say. Their memory care area felt like a dark locked basement hole, to be frank. The people and assisted living side were fine, but memory care seemed an afterthought.
One suggestion that I have: hire an event person.

Initially it was necessary that we place our loved one here, but it is not a place of longevity for us. Look at all of the above categories rated at a 3. Those need improvement.

My mom has been at Brookside Stone Mountain for 9 months and they've had three administrators with no experience, they're currently on the third. They lack staff; they have one person per shift on days, one person on evenings, and one person on nights. They lack experience in taking care of the residents. The only meal my mom can safely eat is breakfast. For the other meals, they serve food a teenager would eat. They aren't concerned about dietary needs or low sodium - they don't take that into consideration. I've never seen a dietician or a menu - you never know what you're going to eat. Like most communities, they have an "always available" menu that you can order from if you don't like what's being served that day, but my mom gets lip when she asks for it. They'll say things like, "what do you want that for?" They're also lacking in the cleaning of her room. Her room just got cleaned after 3 weeks. We're dealing with a culture that doesn't care, they don't have basic care skills. According to the State Ombudsman they are not an Assisted Living Facility, although they represent themselves as such. They are a personal care home. My mom has fell twice and SHE had to call 911. They don't answer the call buttons, they just shut them off and keep going. They don't answer the phone and the door stays unlocked until nighttime, you can just walk in and roam about inside. They open the door at 7am and they allow it to stay open until 7pm. Anyone could walk in off the streets. As a family we have had meetings with them. They seemed responsive to our concerns and small changes were made afterward. One of the directors tried to pull a surprise to have legal counsel there, and we didn't know he was going to be there. I'm pretty sure that precipitated the change in the administration, because of the things we shared with the legal counsel. Based on us speaking up there were small changes, but it's still not the experience we would like to have for our mom. It's been a bad experience. Currently, my mom doesn't get to the bed before 10:30pm and they get her up at 5:30am because of their lack of staff. So, she is not getting the proper rest. There isn't enough staff to get her to bed early and / or help her up at a decent time. They used to have 12 hour shifts, but they had problems keeping staff so now they have 8 hour shifts. The person who has the evening shift puts her to bed and the person who has the morning shift, gets her up - which results in the 10:30pm (or later) to 5:30am sleep schedule. The reason why we chose Brookside is because it fit into her budget, and it was all inclusive. I'm not and can not speak for all of communities, but for staying in the budget - is this what we get? She is 80+ years old, and this is ridiculous. Thankfully nothing has happened to my mom, there is no abuse or neglect. But the culture lacks respect, they talk to her any kind of way. They'll say things like, "If I would have known you were on my list, I wouldn't have helped you." They speak to her in an inhuman manner and they make her feel less than. Not all, but some of the staff have a serious lack of respect and if they're speaking to her that way, I can't imagine how they speak to those who are nonverbal and incognizant. We used A Place for Mom; they referred us to Brookside and I'm very disappointed in that service because now we are moving my mom. They've decided that as of Monday they are raising her rent by [price removed]. Overall I would tell everyone that it's been a bad experience and to stay away.

Our family had an in person tour and it was a great experience, the community was very clean and the staff were all super friendly.
Our family decided to come to Brookside Stone Mountain because of one staff member [name removed]. They went above and beyond for our family and really made us feel comfortable and special. They really paid attention to all of our loved ones wants and needs, and was just amazing to work with.

This community is close to us, which we liked. But they were understaffed most of the time, and seemed to be lacking training, it could of been so much better. Some of the staff was very and some of the staff was horrible, however they did take care of her. I did see her every day which i believe helped her get more care. You do have to make your presence known. They did have a couple of exercise classes for the residents, they would throw the ball to each other. Sometimes they would have holiday parties, entertainment come in to sing to the,. They tried to keep them active the best they could. We cleaned the rooms ourselves, but they were good size, they had a big window that provided fresh sunlight

The staff is good for the most part, they could use some training in care giving. They are very short staffed

Our loved one seems to be settling into Brookside Stone Mountain. The facility is an older establishment that could use some updating and refreshing. But they are taking good care of his needs. The staff is friendly and caring. We moved him to this facility for better care and more attentive staff members Also there isn't as many residents in the memory care section here, only about 12. There were about 60 in the previous facility he was at. There is a better staff to resident ratio here. The staff members are pretty easy to talk to about any questions or concerns regarding our loved one's well-being. It seems like he is enjoying his meals. It is in a convenient location where we come and take him out a few times a week. It fit our budget needs.

It has been a while since I had taken a tour of this community but from what I can remember everything went fine. I remember the staff where friendly and seemed involved with the residents and I was pleased to see that. The floor plan was open and they made sure to keep the property nice and clean. It was just not the right timing for my mother to move.

After looking all over the place for substantial senior living for my mom, i was severely disappointed by most places in that they offered low monthly Apartment rates but the Level of care rates skyrocketed. Also they were being run by tyrants that wouldn't budge on Pricing or room type selection. Once i came to tour and eventually place my mom at this location, i found that she flourished and i could not beat the pricing structure. The new management was so knowledgeable about the community and in being attentive to our needs. Price, Location, Staff, Appearance, and activities were all 5 star in my slightly slanted opinion ( My mom lived there!) If you can go check this place out, Just call and check it out!

I was not impressed with this community at all. The halls were small and dark and the community was dark as well. The residents were not really doing much in the community. This was just not a good fit for dad.

My mother is doing very well since her move into the Brookside. The place is very clean and all of the staff and caregivers are very friendly. Mother has joined the exercise program and bingo. She tells me that the meals are very good. She always gets enough food and some. My mother is happy to be there and I'm happy she is doing well.
