This facility does not know how to treat mentally ill patients that have also have terminal illness. Little to no compassion (a few CNAs were nice to my sister)

Never again.....
This facility is understaffed, underqualified, unsecured, outdated and frankly disgusting. Within 5 hours, I received a call from the facility stating that my mother fell out of bed. The nurse was not polite nor caring whatsoever. Her tone quite frankly set me off a bit. When I asked mom why this happened- she had to use the restroom and no one came. Mom had bruises on her back, buttocks and knee. I also noticed on several visits my mother was being fed meals that included pasta, bread, cakes and ice cream- she is diabetic. By Wednesday morning, mom was sent to the ER for severe stoma bleeding. She had not had these types of issues in weeks. Her bleeding was so severe she needed a transfusion. On Friday I walked in to the ER again to find my mother completely covered in blood. When I asked the head nurse at Alden why my mother was not put in the clean clothing I left for her, her response was “do you want me to let your mother bleed all over her pajamas?” She also made it clear that my mother’s case was too much for her staff to handle and that she has 20 other patients assigned to the same nurse. Yet they took her in. I also complained about a severe urine odor in my mom’s room near the upholstered furniture. It was also mentioned to me by the moms nurse that her stoma was different that anything she ever worked with.-Yet they took on a stoma patient. I might add my mother’s stoma is quite standard. One week later on a monday, my mother went out for a radiation appointment and never came back. We did not find this out until Tuesday afternoon when a family member called to check on her. The nurse who was assigned to my mother rudely stated, “I wasn’t here-the night nurse should have called you”. After multiple emails and voicemails, and a call to the hospital liaison & regional director, I finally received a call back from the head nurse who apologized for the lack of communication but then quickly asked, “So should I have a nurse pack up your mothers things or will you be coming in? When I arrived to do so, I found my mother’s soiled clothing with brand-new clothing tied up in a bag as well as all her personal items including her toothbrush! They had been in the bag with urine soaked clothing. After washing 4 times, I tossed all the clothing- some of which still had the tags and most of the personal items. When I demanded to speak to the head nurse, I was greeted 45 minutes later by the facility administrator. While waiting, I witnessed several call lights blinking for at least 10 minutes. Those are lit when a resident is on the toilet and needs assistance. I also overheard a resident yelling about how he did not receive dinner the night before and his breakfast was food he could not eat. (I assume another dietary issue) While waiting I also noticed documents on the counter laying out in the open. Without even touching, or leaning over I could see that it was a patient list, with full names, ages and room numbers, and medications. My mother also had some personal medical supplies that allow her to speak that were missing. Upon inspection of the room again, the admin noticed staff left my mother’s dentures behind. It was not until I threatened to file a police report over the missing medical supplies that they produced them with a clear insincere apology. This facility is just a horrible place to place a loved one.

Highly recommend
We chose Alden for m y mom after three separate people had shared with us their good experience. As everyone knows its very difficult to chose a nursing home so their recommendations meant a lot to us. My mother spent almost three months here before she died from her inability to tolerate dialysis. The Alden nurses were fabulous - warm, caring, hard working. They were very kind and patient with my mom. The food was good enough and the place is very clean. They could use more CNA's ( but after a year in and out of various places, all of the facilities can use more CNA's). The only bad things was that the social workers were not proactive and seemed kind of dopey. WE had one meeting with them and they were clueless. But overall it was a lovely place for my mother.

A Not so Sleepless Daughter
My mother has been a resident of Alden Estates for almost 2 years now and I have to say the care she has been given is outstanding!!!! I'm at Alden at least three times a week and at various times and I have observed nothing but kind, loving staff. Thank you Alden for helping me sleep better at night knowing my mom is truly being cared for!

STAY AWAY!!
My mom was admitted here a month ago after her knee surgery. She was in there for 2 weeks and they were truly the worst 2 weeks of her life. First she was given antibiotics without consulting a doctor because they THOUGHT she had an infection. Those meds gave her an allergic reaction and instead of stopping them right there the nurse [Removed] kept giving them to her for another couple of days. She couldn't walk so she would usually need someones help to go to the bathroom, but they would not show up for at least an hour and would be really rude. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE! I would not recommend this to ANYONE!

Terrific wound care
We have used Alden of Naperville, for rehab recently. The wound care people were terrific, otherwise, and in general, it was okay. There was only a nurse onsite a couple of hours a day, so if a bandage came off in the middle of the night there was a scramble for what to do.
