Assisted living communities arrange residential living communities and aid for seniors who may need support with things such as taking medication or cooking food. The services offered often include aid with activities of daily living. Inhabitants may be kept under monitoring and evaluation. Under certain circumstances, communities may offer skilled nursing, respite, or dementia care. In Washington, the annual median cost for an assisted living community is around $66,000 . The state of Washington has specific regulations related to this kind of community. The Washington State Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS), Aging and Long-Term Support Administration (Department) supervises this type of community. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include medication administration provided through nurse delegation, resident self-administration of medication, and medication administration. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to guarantee their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as level of personal care needs, preferences regarding other issues important to the resident applicant, an initial comprehensive exam including medical history , and activities and service preferences. Public assistance is available through Medicaid 1915(c) Waiver program–Community Options Program Entry System (COPES).This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include administration of health care treatments, basic personal care services, general responsibility for each resident, and assistance with ADLs. Staff members receive training in a number of areas. These areas include HIV/AIDS, safety training (3 hours), nurse delegation and core diabetes, and continuing education. There must be one bath or shower for every 1 residents and one toilet for every 1 residents. There is a maximum occupancy of 2 residents per room. This community has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include not exceeding more than 14 hours between the evening meal and breakfast , a minimum of three meals a day at regular intervals, nourishing and palatable meals adjusted to meet individual preferences to the extent reasonably possible, and practitioner.
