An assisted living community is a residential living community which administers care, support, and supervision to medically stable persons who are not in need of skilled nursing care. Assisted living communities frequently provide care supervision, chances for organized activity, and aid with the activities of daily life. Under certain circumstances, communities may offer dementia care, hospice, or continuing care. In Washington, the annual median cost for an assisted living community is around $66,000 . The state of Washington maintains a number of stipulations associated with this kind of community. The Washington State Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS), Aging and Long-Term Support Administration (Department) certifies this community type. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include promote each resident’s health, safety, and well-being consistent with the resident negotiated care plan, administration of health care treatments, basic personal care services, and general responsibility for each resident. Public assistance is available through Medicaid 1915(c) Waiver program–Community Options Program Entry System (COPES).There must be one toilet for every 1 residents and one bath or shower for every 1 residents. There is a maximum occupancy of 2 residents per room. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to guarantee their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as mental illness, significant known behaviors or symptoms that may cause concern or require special care, level of personal care needs, and an initial comprehensive exam including medical history . This community has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include practitioner, a minimum of three meals a day at regular intervals, not exceeding more than 14 hours between the evening meal and breakfast , and nourishing and palatable meals adjusted to meet individual preferences to the extent reasonably possible. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include resident self-administration of medication, residents must state whether they will receive medication assistance or medication administration services, and medication administration. Staff must obtain training in a variety of subjects. These areas include safety training (3 hours), basic training (70 hours), specialty training, and orientation (2 hours).
