Assisted living communities provide care, supervision, and social interaction to persons around 65 years old. Assisted living communities frequently provide assistance with appointments and transportation, aid with the activities of daily life, and opportunities for recreational activity. This community has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include must provide three meals a day and meals must meet recommended dietary allowances established by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. There must be one bath or shower for every 1 residents and one toilet for every 1 residents. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include laundry services, basic cognitive support, activities and socialization, and assistance with unanticipated ADLs for a defined recovery period. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to assure their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as allergies, special health or dietary needs, medication regimen, and immunization history.
