Assisted living communities administer social opportunities, oversight, and personal care to persons around 65 years of age or older. The types of service provided often involve assistance with the activities of daily life. Inhabitants may be kept under monitoring and evaluation. Under certain circumstances, communities may offer hospice, Alzheimer’s care, or respite. In Illinois, the annual median cost for an assisted living community is around $50,040 . Illinois maintains specific rules associated with this kind of community. The Illinois Department of Public Health governs this community type. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include medication reminders, housekeeping, assistance with activities of daily living, and security. Public assistance is available through A Medicaid 1915(c) waiver called the Supported Living Program and a 1915(b) waiver called the Managed Long-Term Services and Supports program. Staff members obtain training in a variety of subjects. These include: confidentiality, independence, residents’ need and service plans, and hygiene. This community has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include communities must provide three daily meals. The minimum number of residents for this community type is 3. There must be one bath or shower for every residents and one toilet for every 1 residents. In total, there can be no more than 1 residents to a room. This type of community is required to have a staff member on duty 24 hours a day. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include medication reminders, documenting whether or not the resident took the medication, and observing the resident. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to guarantee their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as evaluation of a prospective resident’s psychosocial condition, provider must ensure that the resident and the resident’s representative, if any, are informed of the potential consequences of activities that the provider considers to pose risks to health and/or safety, A comprehensive assessment, and evaluation of a prospective resident’s cognitive condition.
