Mom was there for respite so she did not really get into community as much as if she were living there. We would recommend the Morning Star Village community to other families

I cannot speak highly enough about Northport Highlands Assisted Living Facility! From the moment we walked through the doors, we knew it was the one. The atmosphere is warm, welcoming, and feels like home. The staff is absolutely wonderful — attentive, compassionate, and genuinely dedicated to the residents' well-being. The facility itself is beautiful, clean, and thoughtfully designed with both comfort and safety in mind. There are plenty of common areas where residents can socialize, read, or enjoy activities. Residents love the sunny, peaceful garden area where they can relax with a cup of tea, and the community rooms are always bustling with activities, from movie nights to craft sessions. What truly stands out, however, is the quality of care. The caregivers are experienced, patient, and always go the extra mile to ensure residents feel comfortable, secure, and respected. The personalized care plans mean that every resident receives the attention and support they need.

Dad entered hospice care within a couple of weeks of going to Morning Star. He died two months later. But Morning Star was exactly the right place for him, and his last months were enjoyable with new friends and less loneliness. Dad didn't think the food was great. We supplemented a lot with food reserves in his room's refrigerator. My only slight complaint about care is that some of the aide's seemed oblivious to the state of his health. They kept trying to keep him walking and self-dressing when his strength was failing. They told him it was a matter of using it or losing it. He was there to die, for goodness' sake. And he knew it. He went from walking independently to using a walker to using a wheelchair in two months because his heart was failing. The good news is that the only day he spent in bed was the day he died. But we don't know how long he lay on the floor before he was found that morning. I'm not entirely sure the aides really understood the situation. Overall about as good of an experience that anyone could expect, given the circumstances of the situation. My criticisms were my only criticisms, the absolute only times we felt something was missing. It was a good experience for my dad, even though he understood that his time was short, that his life was ending. My dad told me several times that he wished he had gone into assistive care sooner, that he enjoyed making friends and having companions to spend his last days with.

My mother is a musician, in the early mid stages of dementia. Playing the piano is an essential part of her therapy to maintain the memory that she still has. It is so heartwarming to hear her tell us on the phone when different staff members have asked her to play the piano. "They tell me how uplifting it is to hear me play." We all want a place where our loved ones will be cared for. But Morning Star Village has been a place where mom feels loved. And that can make all the difference in the world. No, that does make all the difference in the world. Thank you, Morning Star Village.

It’s a pretty nice place. Very clean and the residents looked happy. I noticed some activities going on for the residents that looked fun. There is a nice resident dog as well. The food looked good during the lunch meal service. I was able to join. Friendly staff as well!

I have grown to know the Northport Highlands through my husband's year-long stay there. While I rarely provide reviews anywhere, it's important to share my input, as what I have experienced, what my husband continues to experience, and what I see almost daily, is worthy of sharing to those who may be seeking a caring living environment for a loved one. The Highlands is clean, friendly, diverse in population and staff, attentive to individual needs of residents, and offers a wide variety of activities to keep residents involved. As a facility, it has the ONLY indoor swim pool in Leelanau county, which is open to residents and resident families. Two exercise areas have just about any machines/equipment one needs. Ice cream socials, coffee and donuts, happy hour . . . and music happens with weekly singalongs, piano concerts, and outside musicians visiting. The staff is local - key to consistency and presence. Pets are welcome. Apartments are large with plenty of storage space.

My mother [name removed] has been a resident there this past year. The staff were without exception truly loving to her. She liked the meals and activities that they provided her. I often ate meals with her in the dinning room. This gave me many opportunities to see how kind the staff was to my mother and all of the other residents. I have and will continue to highly recomend the Highlands to everyone I meet. David M. Warm

Morning Star provides a safe, caring environment that includes all of the comforts of home combined with the care that she needs being in her [age removed]! There are always activities that she can participate in as well as field trips and transportation to her appointments. The social activities keep her active and provide her an avenue to interact with individuals. Being able to give her input on food service, activities, etc. gives her a sense of being involved in her "home".

My parents moved into Morning Star Village in 2018. 3 months later my dad passed away unexpectedly but my mom decided to stay, even though she was independent, because she had made new friends & loved being able to socialize & do activities! 4 years later she is still at Morning Star & thriving! She loves the food, the activities & the staff are amazing! Our family couldn't be happier with Morning Star Village!

I came to MorningStar Village after I fell at home and was very weak; having difficulty eating because loss of appetite. I was determined to get better and gain strength. With the compassionate, caring care and assistance that I received from their staff, I recovered. I have made my wonderful lasting friendships with many residents and staff. The food is great. Everyone is so friendly and kind.
