Assisted living communities provide apartment style housing and social events as well as individualized assistance. Assisted living communities frequently offer supervision of care, opportunities for recreational activity, and aid with the activities of daily life. In select instances, communities may offer dementia care, skilled nursing care, or “aging in place”. In Illinois, the annual median cost for an assisted living community is around $50,040 . The minimum number of residents for this community type is 3. In total, there can be no more than 1 residents to a room. This type of community is required to have a staff member on duty 24 hours a day. There must be one toilet for every 1 residents and one bath or shower for every residents. Staff members receive education in a variety of areas. These areas include infection control, job responsibilities and limitations, disaster procedures, and resident rights. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include medication reminders, laundry, non-medical services, and security. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include reading the medication label to residents, documenting whether or not the resident took the medication, and only a licensed health care professionall employed by the community may administer medications. Public assistance is available through A Medicaid 1915(c) waiver called the Supported Living Program and a 1915(b) waiver called the Managed Long-Term Services and Supports program. This community has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include communities must provide three daily meals.
