Assisted Living

Assisted living communities offer residential living communities and health care to your loved one who need a helping hand with mobility or cooking. Assisted living communities often provide support with daily activities, chances for recreational activity, and help with appointments and transportation. In select situations, communities may provide Alzheimer's care, "aging in place", or nursing care. In Illinois, the annual median cost for an assisted living community is around $50,040 . Illinois maintains a number of provisions associated with this kind of community. The Illinois Department of Public Health governs this community type. Staff members receive education in a number of areas. These areas include privacy, internal policies, confidentiality, and reporting. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to guarantee their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as evaluation of a prospective resident's cognitive condition, provider must ensure that the resident and the resident's representative, if any, are informed of the potential consequences of activities that the provider considers to pose risks to health and/or safety, assessment must be updated by a physician annually or upon a significant change in condition, and A comprehensive assessment. This community has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include communities must provide three daily meals. Public assistance is available through A Medicaid 1915(c) waiver called the Supported Living Program and a 1915(b) waiver called the Managed Long-Term Services and Supports program. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include medication reminders, non-medical services, housekeeping, and assistance with activities of daily living. The minimum number of residents for this community type is 3. In total, there can be no more than 1 residents to a room. There must be one bath or shower for every residents and one toilet for every 1 residents. This type of community is required to have a staff member on duty 24 hours a day. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include reading the medication label to residents, medication administration, and supervision of self-administered medications.
