An assisted living community is a residential community which provides support, care, and supervision to self-sufficient seniors who are not in need of skilled nursing care. Assisted living communities frequently provide help with transportation and appointments, chances for leisurely activity, and care supervision. Under certain circumstances, communities may offer respite, “aging in place”, or dementia care. The monthly median cost for a private room is around $8,562 and the cost for a semi-private room is around $7,924 . Idaho maintains specific regulations related to this kind of community. The Idaho Department of Health and Welfare regulates this community type. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include assistance with activities of daily living, laundry, routine housekeeping, and coordination of outside services. This community has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include food selections must take into account residents’ food preferences, Prior to serving a therapeutic diet, the community must have a therapeutic diet menu planned or approved, signed, and dated by a registered dietitian, food selections food selections must take into account residents’ food habits, and each resident on a therapeutic diet must have an order from a physician or authorized provider. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to guarantee their needs are going to be met. Public assistance is available through Medicaid State Plan Personal Care option and the Medicaid Aged and Disabled 1915(c) Waiver program. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include have medications administered, self-administer medications, and receive assistance with self administration. Snacks must be offered between meals and at bedtime Staff members receive training in a variety of fields. These include: assistance with activities of daily living, promotion of independence, resident’s adjustment to the new living environment, and stress reduction for community personnel and residents.
