Star, Idaho

Assisted Living

Assisted living communities provide apartment style housing and social events as well as individualized support. Services provided often involve aid with ADLs. Residents may be kept under monitoring and assessment. In certain cases, communities may offer respite, “aging in place”, or Alzheimer’s care. The monthly median cost for a private room is around $8,562 and the cost for a semi-private room is around $7,924 . The state of Idaho has a number of stipulations related to this kind of community. The Idaho Department of Health and Welfare regulates this type of community. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to assure their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as interventions for each behavioral symptom, uniform assessment that covers a wide range of areas, specific behavioral symptoms, and physicians orders. Staff members obtain education in a variety of fields. These areas include resident’s adjustment to the new living environment, 16 hours job-related orientation training, integration with rehabilitation services, and promotion of independence. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include routine housekeeping, emergency interventions, assistance with and monitoring of medications, and laundry. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include receive assistance with self administration, self-administer medications, and have medications administered. Snacks must be offered between meals and at bedtime Public assistance is available through Medicaid State Plan Personal Care option and the Medicaid Aged and Disabled 1915(c) Waiver program. This community has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include food selections must take into account residents’ food preferences, food selections must take into account residents’ physical abilities, each resident on a therapeutic diet must have an order from a physician or authorized provider, and Food selections must include those served in the community and in season.
