Assisted living communities offer organized social interaction and apartment style housing as well as individualized support. Services provided often include help with ADLs. Residents may be kept under supervision and assessment. Under certain circumstances, communities may provide continuing care, respite, or hospice. The Department of Social Services, Community Care Licensing Division licenses this community type. Staff members receive education in a variety of subjects. Public assistance is available through The state’s Medicaid 1915(c) Assisted Living Waiver program. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. There must be one bath or shower for every 1 residents and one toilet for every 1 residents. This community has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include the total daily diet must meet the recommended dietary allowances of the National Academy of Sciences Food and Nutrition Board, communities must provide at least three meals per day and snacks, meals must comply with diet prescribed by physicians, and meals must include an appropriate variety of foods, planned in consideration of cultural and religious backgrounds .
