Independent Living

For seniors who would prefer to live primarily without assistance but would like the benefit of having housekeeping maintained by professionalls, an Independent Living Community could be the perfect fit. Basic tasks such as meal planning and housekeeping are handled by staff and a calendar of recreational and leisure activities is provided, allowing residents the autonomy to use their time as they choose, free from daily responsibilities. Along with their daily needs being met, residents can enjoy the opportunity to live among peers, surrounded by others of similar ages and interests. Within the individual units, residents have access to a private living space and a full kitchen, and can even live with a companion if they choose. While policies vary between communities, many residences allow pets as well. If medical or nursing assistance is desired, residents may always utilize the services of independent caregivers. There are a number of expenditures and benefits to keep in mind while selecting an independent living community. It is important to determine if these amenities are included in the plan: transportation, cable TV, laundry, housekeeping, field trips, wellness program, utilities, and internet access. The luxuries associated with independent living include private rental hall, golf course, healthcare center, transportation, restaurant-style dining hall, fitness center & swimming pool, security guards, and laundry service.
