Independent Living

Independent Living Communities offer seniors a convenient equilibrium between an independent lifestyle and not having to worry about housekeeping. Basic needs such as meal preparation and housekeeping are handled by staff and a calendar of recreational and leisure activities is provided, allowing residents an opportunity to use their time as they wish, free from daily obligations. Along with their daily needs being met, residents can enjoy the opportunity to be among peers, in a community with others of similar ages and interests. Typically consisting of a private living area and a full kitchen, these communities offer homes with many of the amenities of apartment life but without the hassle. Guests can be invited over and entertained, and more time can be spent with them with the basic maintenance of daily tasks out of the way. While policies vary between communities, a number of residences allow cats and dogs as well. If medical or nursing support is desired, residents may always utilize the services of independent caregivers. There are a number of benefits and expenses to balance when choosing an independent living community. It is important to figure out if these services are included in the service plan: cable TV, meals, internet access, housekeeping, move-in fee, laundry, field trips, and initial assessment fee. The conveniences that pertain to independent living include community activities, beauty salon & barber shop, laundry service, security guards, golf course, restaurant-style dining hall, fitness center & swimming pool, and healthcare center.
