An Independent Living Community allows residents the ability to continue to live an active lifestyle while guaranteeing their essential needs have been fulfilled. Daily needs such as meal planning and housekeeping are taken care of, which permits occupants more free time to live active lives as they see fit. Along with their daily needs being met, residents can enjoy an opportunity to live among peers, in a community with others of similar age groups and interests. Within the individual units, residents have access to their own private living space and a full kitchen, and can even live with a partner if they prefer. While policies vary between locations, numerous residences allow cats and dogs as well. If medical or nursing support is desired, residents may always enlist the services of private care providers. There are a variety of advantages and costs to consider when choosing an independent living community. It is important to determine if these services are covered in the care plan: Waiting list deposit, cable TV, initial assessment fee, housekeeping, internet access, move-in fee, laundry, and utilities. The benefits associated with independent living include transportation, game/TV room, beauty salon & barber shop, healthcare center, fitness center & swimming pool, security guards, restaurant-style dining hall, and laundry service.
