The one thing that made Waltonwood University stand out was the feelings we got while there. Everyone was truly caring. It radiated from them. The other places...were fine but they were doing their jobs. Truly the difference. My brother has been in the hospital and rehab the past couple of weeks. I can tell he misses WW by the statements that he makes. That means everything to us!

The main selling points for us were: 1. The availability of a 2-bed 2-bath unit 2. The unit's proximity to the dining room 3. All the units and amenities are on one floor 4. The quality of the food 5. The ability to transition to Assisted Living in the same campus. The staff are very friendly and quick to respond. Housekeeping is provided every 2 weeks and is thorough. There have been some short-staffing issues in the dining room and housekeeping, but management has been working to minimize the impact. They have a lot of in-house activities to participate in every week, as well as occasional off-site lunches or day trips. I would highly recommend this facility to others.

Beware of high ratings that are written by employees of a facility/business, many not even admitting to being employees in their reviews. My father was a resident of this facility for over 5 years..3 1/2 years in independent living and 1 1/2 years in assisted living. The independent living "side" is fine, a pleasant community with very nice and reasonably priced senior living apartments. The assisted living "side" was a living nightmare for pretty much the entire time. Full disclosure..My Dad is a dementia patient and a difficult one, but as I have since learned not all that unusual. There were pockets of excellence in the staff, but Waltonwood was never able to provide suitable and consistent care for my Dad in the time that he was there. We needed to hire outside caregivers to assure that he got showered and dressed. In his final months there, as his condition deteriorated he would spend days in his own excrement.

This is a wonderful place for independent living. It is close to so many stores. Some of the stores are even in walking distance from there. Everyone is so nice and helpful for all their needs. My mom has already recommended this place to her friends.

Hospice patients deserve to have dignity in the final days when they are getting ready to pass. While some patients have issues communicating their needs, my father did not. He never lost his cognitive ability and was able to communicate until the transition. Be prepared that the staff looses patience with family members that make inquiries about the status of the patients health or requesting assistance for them. It is likely the staff will request that a single family member be able to relay information to other family members regarding health or other questions pertaining to the patient. While this facility is adequate for residents that can ambulate and take care of their day to day needs, it is not for someone who needs more skilled nursing. This facility lacks the knowledge of actual hospice care. It is not just the patient they have to support but also grieving family members who understand death is near and can have a degree of empathy during the entire process. Knowing what I know today, I would have transferred him to a different facility where he could have received the care he deserved. They have no qualms about banning family members from their facility when it becomes inconvenient for them.

The professionalism of the staff really stood out to us from the beginning - they seemed legitimately excited to engaged with you when you come visit and seem interested in what you have to say. They do have a couple different church services, a lot of music entertainment that comes to play guitar, piano and sing old time music. They also have bingo every week. Based on our overall experience we would recommend this community to other families.

Our family had an in person tour and Waltonwood was just terrific, the entire tour was excellent.
They have not changed my filter since I have been here. I asked them to remove a birds nest from near my window and they have not removed it. The staff are lovely and the people are wonderful however, the property is poorly managed. They need more help and people to keep up the maintenance. A lot of the staff are unvaccinanted and some of them have very little training. They need to update if they are going to advertise as luxury it needs to match. I feel like they need to make a maintenance system to document what is needed instead of going to the concierge. I would not recommend it.
I would recommend trying this community out for independent living. We haven't had any real issues. My loved one hasn't been happy with the food. They serve food at inconsistent time for delivery of foods and tastes. This is due to the pandemic, if the dining room was open then we most likely wouldn't have this issue.

We chose Waltonwood University because of the proximity to our home as well as the value for the money. The surroundings of the facility are great too, she has a great view from the apartment. She has complained about the food recently, they got a new chef a few months ago and the meals are now being delivered. Overall, I would recommend to others looking.

We chose Waltonwood University because of the overall capabilities that they had for the future as well as the proximity to family members. The apartment sizes here are good, she is in a 1 bedroom 1 bath and it is very nice for her needs. I would recommend to others.

My mother is an independent living resident at Waltonwood University in Rochester Hills. The facility is very warm and welcoming, as are the staff. We enjoy visiting mom . It is a bonus for my sister and I to be able to stay in the guest apartment, which is cozy. The reasonable daily rate includes breakfast, lunch and supper. The meals served at Waltonwood are delicious. Kudos to the chefs! Every staff member we met greeted us with a smile! Secretary [name removed] is great! Thank you [name removed], you are always smiling! Thank you [name removed], for another great visit to Waltonwood!

The executive director himself gave us a tour. He was incredibly knowledgeable. Really spent time to explain everything and answer all our questions. He even asked about my loved ones hobbies/interests and expectations for the community. Put our minds at ease!

I visited community and it was a great experience. Apartments are renovated, activities happening and residents looked happy. My tour with [name removed] was top notch, she is fantastic! Spent time with us and did not rush us. I appreciated that. There is a lot to offer and location is fantastic. Even though this is an older building and not one of the new builds, it is kept up nicely and very home like atmosphere. Reputation is very good and I have friends that live there. I rather that over a place I never heard of to be honest. I give 5 star because my experience was wonderful. I would highly recommend this facility.

A Place for Mom has scored Waltonwood University 8.6 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.
We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.
Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
