They did not do enough activity for physical activity in the memory care center ! They should have daily walks for those interested and on days they can't walk there should be stretching exercises and some form of silver sneakers exercising being taught and encouraged to be done. Also there was a financial mistake made on their part that got my moms money caught up in a mess with her bank Tylenol not offered for discomfort without doctor note even though we gave permission for it to be dispensed.

Our family had an in person tour and we were just not really fond of the person giving the tour as well as the community, the rooms were just to small
Response from Vitality Living West End Richmond
October 7, 2022Hello, Vitality Living West End Richmond strives to provide exceptional senior living for residents and a rewarding experience for its employees. We encourage you to call us at 615-538-3200 to provide feedback and ensure that we address any areas of concern.
My mother chose Vitality Living West End Richmond mainly because she really likes this part of town and wanted to live here. When she went to tour she was impressed by the cleanliness of the facility. At that time the food seemed to be very good too, but since she has moved it is has gone downhill. The turnover seems to be pretty high, but I know that is true of everywhere right now. She seems to be satisfied and we are extremely satisfied with the way they manage medications. I would recommend Vitality to others.

This facility does a good job overall. The care staff could be better, but is ok. I'm disappointed with the quality of care from the in house Dr. Dad's visit was short and minimal and the Dr seems very unprofessional. It was done outside and around other residents. There was no physical exam or detail, just a few questions and vitals. I ended up making him an outside appointment, which is coming up. I also don't care for the charge nurse, I don't get feedback or answers from her. The food is good, they have a daily menu. But sometimes they change it without notice. We were told that the doors get locked at a certain time, as far as locked for the day for residents and their outside time. Sometimes they close them early/make residents come in early, which dad really dislikes. They do seem generally understaffed and I think locking the doors early might be because of that also. The activities director tries really hard to engage the residents and to have activities that everybody can enjoy. We sometimes have to remind them to do laundry and bedding. Laundry also disappears sometimes. I would probably recommend them to friends and family, but would make sure they were aware of the issues I've mentioned.

I would recommend the community to others for their loved ones. The friendliness of the staff and residents stands out to me, and made it feel very welcoming during the tour and having my loved one in the community. There can be times the response to the call button requests can be slow, and I think this might be due to staffing shortages, like they have everywhere. The community has been good in making sure that all the medications are given on time to the residents. The community always has some type of activity for the residents to participate in.

I was not impressed with the community due to the apartment sizes being smaller. There was an odor and it wasn't as clean as I had anticipated. The community was also too far from family for our loved one.

I am very happy with the memory care unit at this community and the staff that work in the memory care unit. They take great care of my loved one. They have activities like arts and crafts, bingo, painting, games, movies and more for the residents to do. They even have work out classes for the residents. It's great and everything went well with it.

March 14, 2022Hi, we know that making a move to a senior community can be a difficult process and it makes us all so happy to hear of great experiences like this. Thank you for your feedback!
We really liked Vitality Living, but it was a bit pricier than we were wanting. When they followed up after the tour we told them we had chosen another facility that was a little less expensive and they said they could have come down on price. I wish that was discussed during the initial tour because this would have been our first choice.

February 28, 2022Hi, thank you for your feedback. We value your input!
I cannot say enough good things about Vitality Living. We went with this facility because when I left from my to tour, I just felt different than when I left from the others. I got a really good feeling from them. The staff came in the first day and assessed my mom they really seemed like they knew what to do. A couple days after she was here, my mom said this is almost too good to be true. I would highly recommend to others who are looking.

November 5, 2021Hello, thank you for your five-star feedback! We greatly appreciate you taking time to leave us a review.
The community does what they promise, and anything extra I ask. The food consists of 3 full meals of your choice and 2 snacks for the residents each day. The try and meet the residents requests within reason.

August 17, 2021Hi, we greatly appreciate your five-star feedback. Thank you for your time and interest in Vitality Living West End Richmond!
We chose Brookdale West End Richmond because of the location, the size of the community( it is smaller, only around 90 rooms), and we had comfort around the people here. The room sizes here are great, they are perfect for their needs. I think the food is good. The best part about the community so far has been that they are keeping the residents safe with everything going on. They have managed the pandemic very well. I would recommend.

We chose Brookdale because it smelled nicer, and it was just a nice overall facility for our price range. Also the location is great. The room sizes are HUGE. She shares a room with a roommate and it has two big windows. It was the largest room we have seen. The regular dining room looks a lot nicer menu wise but memory care seems to have has less options. My favorite part about the community is the people. They have been so helpful to get us connected via Facetime and porch visits with my mother in law. They keep us in the loop on everything and you can tell the staff genuinely care about their residents. I would recommend Brookdale West End Richmond.

The people at Brookdale are fabulous and very friendly and they seem to care about the folks that live there. I'm impressed with most everything except for two things. I find it very odd that no one locks any doors ever. It just creeps me out. The other thing is if you enjoy food you may be disappointed.

Brookdale West End has been a blessing. My father-in-law unexpectedly required the need for assisted living care after completing rehabilitation for an unexpected hip replacement. Needless to say, the overwhelming issues our family focused on was the quality of care and necessary services that go along with his daily well being. There is such a wide range of facilities available in the Richmond area that my husband, brother-in-law and I visited at least ten different locations before making a decision. The decisions was based on a chart comparison between the variety of expectations we had (including cost, location, reputation, and staff) and the services available. During the last two years, we have been very pleased with the outstanding quality of care, regular family involvement activities, lovely atmosphere and a genuine sense of pride in what and how they do things. Everyone from from housekeeping to kitchen staff to nurses to the administration has been on their toes. The sales director, Ms. [name removed] , discussed all aspects of life at Brookdale and answered all questions. If she did not have an immediate answer, she had one soon after. There was no confusion about expectations. We are at ease knowing that [name removed] is safe and sound at Brookdale.

Caring, compassionate care. This is the care that our 87 year old father with progressive vascular dementia has received from living at Brookdale West End (BWE) for 1 1/2 years now. The Sales Manager was a significant help navigating us with an unplanned move for my father. Her resourcefulness and genuine sincerity was significant in helping with Dad's transition from independent living at his home to assisted living. The staff, from dining to direct resident care, has been exceptional ESP over the past 6 months!! They all know Dad's routine to keep him safe yet respectfully encourage his independence. Cost does increase, of course, with additional assistance, but BWE is very supportive with helping the resident maintain as much independence SAFELY until it is absolutely necessary for additional assistance. The activities director has been so helpful to insure that Dad is engaged in activities to have a quality life; they remind him and "reel him out" to participate and he has a wonderful time! We are also blessed to have staff who look after Dad that are experienced and competent. The Medical Assts were able to identify subtle changes in Dad's disposition that resulted in him having to have a pacemaker placed. They also identified new changes in his medication regimen that was concerning to them, notified the family and physicians and prevented what could have been a trip to the ER for Dad. Overall, we couldn't be happier than having had Dad reside at Brookdale West End. What we appreciate the most is the sincere care they provide to our dad. We trust that he is safe and in good hands in our absence. The only suggestion we would offer, quite honestly, is faster, effective wi-fi service in the residents' apartments!

My father has lived in the memory care at Brookdale West End for over a year. I have been happy with how content he is with being there. All of his meals, medicines, and laundry are included in the pricing. The entire staff is very caring and devoted to him and alway make me feel welcome when I visit. They share any concerns with me and I know that they have his best interests at heart. There are many activities that he has participated in and many local trips that he has enjoyed.
