We did not have the best tour experience at Verandas at Wheat Ridge. The house smelled and the appearance was just off-putting. It made me sad because the gal who runs it is so sweet and you can tell she is really trying her hardest, she looked exhausted. It made us realize my loved one did not need this type of care.
My father in law lived here for a year he is malnourished and severely dehydrated. He has dementia and uses a catheter and upon moving him out because of [name removed] who lies different lies to each family member the lack of care for him....his room had urine and stains on the floors all over his bed was blood and urine. His bed was brand new when he moved in. Dirty cather bags with urine still in them mixed in with clean catheter bags. They were told his bags needed changed every week but they were only changing once a month. He had constant UTI'S now we know why. Other residents told us he had to beg to get his bag emptied during the day. They call frozen fish sticks and tater tots a nutritious meal and cold bowls of cereal for breakfast! He wasn't bathed regularly and his fingernails were longer than mine. His hair greasy and dirty. I have to wash all of his clothes because they smell bad. He didn't even have a pillowcase on his pillow. They removed his cable and he couldn't watch tv. They have birds and they don't even have food... a new resident told me she started buying food for them. I will be reviewing on google with pictures of that mess. This place is not what it seems! I regret every day our dad was there!s

It seemed to be very nice. There was a good mix of men and women. It would have been the one we would have chosen if we hadn't seen another one. They had a nice yard. I can't remember whether or not people had free access to it though. I can't remember whether or not they had the doors locked. I don't know how many dementia patients they had either so maybe having the doors locked was necessary.

My mother spent 5 weeks at Verandas before she was placed in a Hospice facility. She was not happy with the service she received at Verandas. However she was failing quickly when she was admitted and within a week or so needed help dressing herself and eating. Her inability to help herself continued to decline until she left. Verandas was clear that as an Assisted Living Facility their clients had to be able to be more self sufficient than my mom was in order to stay. The facility was clean and rooms were nice and the food good. The owner was also willing to work with us on waving the normal 1 year private pay requirement before we could have a Medicaid bed however we didn't end up needing this.
