Certain members of the staff were very nice at Tappan Zee Manor, others were a little harsh. The housekeeping was good. The meals weren't the best. They didn't always have what was promised. My mom was allergic to chocolate, but often served a chocolate dessert with no alternative. The communication with the family was not good. No one reached out to me when my mom was hospitalized and when she died, no one called. My mom was fragile in body, but had all her faculties.
This home is for people that are much more challenged mentally. It was difficult for someone in a wheelchair to get around. The price was a big factor, this facility being much less expensive. If the person can get around on their own and doesn't care if they just watch old movies as entertainment, then it's fine. The facility was clean and they were renovating.

Would recommend
We chose Tappan Zee Manor mostly because it seemed more family friendly oriented. We saw some other places and they were all very nice, but you had to wait a few weeks for answers through corporate and this was more family friendly. You can purchase a higher level of care if you need it - you do not have to move your loved one out. I would recommend this facility to other families.

Warm and Caring Environment
It is a caring environment where the staff and aides know everyone's name and needs. The rooms are nicely furnished. The facility is clean. The Wellness center, PT specialists are well administered. The services are reliable, consistent and caring - hair salon, podiatrist, visiting physicians.

Our tour experience
Our family had an in person tour and this community was a tad bizarre. The people were very nice, but the community was a little run down, it did not seem like it was set up as a senior living community. It seemed that it was just a building they renovated to make into a senior living community, the rugs were beat up and the 20ft windows weren't cleaned. However everyone there that we saw seemed to love it there, they were all so incredibly happy. A very positive vibe.

Excellent Place
This is a very wonderful with the person that was in there very good with continuing our process. My loved one was not able to participate in all of the activities but she loved going to the movies and doing physical therapy.

Happy with our choice
We chose Tappan Zee Manor because of the friendliness of the people we met when we first got here, the price, the convenient location. The room sizes are very nice and spacious. The building used to be a hotel, so they are all about hotel size and all redone. They have a couple of people involved in the activities and they do a tremendous job, residents are always busy. We are very happy with our choice and would recommend to others looking.

Very Nice, Caring Staff
The community is doing a great job in separate dining rooms and keeping the residents separated due to COVID.
I would recommend this community. Everybody who works there is super nice and really care. Most of the staff have been there for 15 plus years.
My loved one likes that bacon is served with breakfast, and that everyone is so nice.
The community is family owned.

Friendly and attentive
The food is good, my aunts room size is very nice i would give it a four. What stood out to us most was the friendliness of the staff, they seemed to really care about their residents. Would recommend this to a family or friend,

A good for mom
They are very helpful and call or email with things I need to know about my mom. They keep communication very open. We have a friend who has two family members there as well and are very happy with it. They have a lot of activities available. I am very happy with Tappan Zee Manor.

A Second Home for Mom
Since my brother and I had to make the decision to find a place for our mother, we were very happy with Tappan Zee Manor. We have access to her caseworker via e-mail or phone. We are always made aware of what is going on with my mother as well as the community that she lives in. We both feel that Tappan Zee Manor was a good fit for our mother. We also are thankful for a Place for Mom in helping us with this decision.

Friendly people !!
My mother in law is doing very well since her move to this place. She loves all of the people and they all love her. I am thrilled that we found this place, when we visit her we go down and eat ice cream ith her and visit. Everything is on the third floor since the place did use to be a hotel.

This community does not work with memory care residents!!
I would recommend this spotless community. Mom likes the food and it seems to be a balanced menu. They offer hourly activities, however I think they could offer more physical activities. The staff are always there to help the residents when needed.

Tappan Zee Manor is a great find!
My mother in law is very happy here. The staff is amazing and very attentive. The rooms and main areas are always clean. It is like family here. My husband and I couldn't be happier.

They are doing a pretty good job.
They are doing a pretty good job. They keep it pretty clean and the staff are friendly. They are quick to respond to concerns, and do a good job of providing activities. There really isn't anything that I would like to see improved or done better. She's pretty happy with the food too.

Considering everything, they were pretty good
They actually did a really good job given everything. I think they're probably close to 100 or 80 people who live there. A lot of people end up just in their rooms, they have nursing that comes to their room to give them meds, all of the meds are supervised, then you can hire help, they did the housekeeping and it was fairly clean. The food was halfway decent, they had a full time nurse and nursing staff that stayed during the day,
I think they were very good given the level of care they could provide, they did a lot more than the other places we looked at. There were a lot of people who hired extra staff to be with them so we had to do that thing. We were pretty happy with that place, a nice thing about it was it was less pretentious and kitschy, it was like a refurbished hotel.
There was only one issue and in the end I don't think it matters so much, given everything, but at one point, my father in law ended up being readmitted to the hospital and when he was discharged, the hospital faxed his papers to Tappan Zee Manor and left out a page. The doctor didn't catch that not all his meds were missing so they just stopped ordering some of his heart medications, he already had so many other things happening but for someone else that may have been bad.
