Connecting

Such a hopeless feeling for all family members during this virus, we are at the mercy of the facility for everything.  Trying to have a connection with family is challenging, and it is difficult not to be emotional and heartbroken.    Dialed the main number for 40 minutes to arrange a family call, no one answered.  We do this every night, but now there is no reception to take the call.  The calls are to be answered by the care team.  Often they go unanswered, you can leave a message, but those messages have never been returned, and if answered, you may need to call again, to make the connection, because the staff has forgotten.   They are busy, I know, so you accept and you let it go.  Today, I called during the day, 50 minutes trying to connect, receptionist said all a go, no call back of a problem, and as I made contact with reception again, told they were busy with an activity and I could not talk to my mom - a decision made by the staff. As I said, we are at their mercy, and I try to accept this fact every day, but for two days, I am unable to make the minimum contact, with the exception of our weekly 20 minute social distance visit on a hot porch, with masks, and no fans, this is the only connection I have, there were pictures, but have seen nothing in the last weeks, and the staff without even asking, tells the family member, the one paying the bill - your mother is doing an activity and we will not take her to her room for a call with you.   There are other decisions made, that have not been reviewed, only to have been revealed in conversations, and again, I accept.  I do believe my mother's needs are being met, grateful she has been in a virus free environment, and I know a change would not be in her best interest - but I just feel so defeated.

Disappointing

My mother has lived in Sunrise Memory Care for almost two years. There have always been small issues, and phone calls not return, but able to get a response because I visited her every other day and I believe her daily care needs were met. With the VIRUS lockdown, I cannot confirm that, too many things that have been dropped to list here and as I tried to follow up, at times told I was micromanaging or when I questioned, I was making team feel inadequate . They are short staffed, with activities canceled, and no volunteers to help. In frustrating conversation with Director, informed no budget for additional staff, and all concerns were dismissed. Communications to corporate passed on to Region Director without courtesy to acknowledge receipt. If leadership cares, they do not show it - these feelings felt by other family members I have spoken with. My mom losing more of her communication skills during this time, the isolation and lack of activity, or part of the journey, I will never know. I do know, there are good people that work there and take care of my mom on a daily basis. They are asked to spread themselves in so many areas. I know we will not move and I pray every day for my mom's wonderful care staff and their families, and that they take good care of my mom, but with all the frustrations and lack of caring with their leadership - I would definitely not recommend Sunrise of Frisco.
