I toured Oakmont of Torrance and it was a very nice tour! This facility would have been my first choice at the time. The rooms were a little pricey, but great facility.

I thought Oakmont of Torrance was really nice. It seemed more like a country club, in a good way. It seemed very upscale. Really the only thing that tipped our decision elsewhere was location. We needed to have our loved one closer to us so that it would be easier for us to visit regularly. Otherwise, we would have given Oakmont strong consideration.
This was a fantastic experience for the family and our loved one. The community is beautiful and the staff are nice. It feels like you are in a home away from home. There is a dining room and the community serves three meals a day. Bingo, piano, singers, and more are some of the activities offered for the residents to participate in.

Didn't think it would be a good fit for my loved one. The price was pretty high as well.
I'm very happy with Oakmont, I feel that my loved ones needs are being met aside from some moments when there may be a wait time for help. I do feel that they are safe there as the staff is very kind. With all of the positives I could say about this community, I have noticed that they are suffering from the effects of Covid. Their issues with staffing retention have effected a few different things. My loved ones health can fluctuate; there are moments they can do things on their own and other times when they may need assistance. In those moments when they do require assistance, they often have to wait a while. Prior to Covid, everything was almost perfect, but lately housekeeping has been backed up and is no longer a weekly occurrence. They're unable to keep up with their normal duties, and when they are completed they aren't done in a timely manner. I do believe that the staff are really nice because my loved one always expresses that and emphasis on how hard working they are. The one complaint from my loved one and other residents is that they can't get an itemized monthly statement from [name removed] in the billing department. She comes off very rude and bluntly tells them, "we can't do that", without any attempt of an honest explanation or reason. Because of her approach I'm sure there are some elderly residents who might feel intimidated and in turn, afraid to ask her for anything. The itemized monthly statement is important because they may want a physical breakdown of what they're paying for each month as that differs from person to person. They may also want to ensure they're getting the services they're paying for since a lot of things have been impeded as an effect of Covid. Thankfully, my loved one is vocal and is able to speak for themselves and receive what they ask for. It still concerns me because I'm sure there are plenty of other residents who aren't as alert or insistently outspoken. The activities director [name removed] is awesome! She walks around from door to door to encourage the residents to participate in activities. The activities she facilitates are great as well; they range from physical activities like volleyball, to interactive brain teasers like puzzles or bingo. She may benefit from having an assistant or some extra hands as well, but that also goes back to their staffing issues with Covid. The meals are good, but the dining aspect has been lacking because of Covid as well. They may not have as many servers, as the residents have to wait a while for their food. They've also been switched to plastic utensils and paper plates, which I'm sure was an adjustment. Overall the caregivers and activities director are amazing; and that's exactly what I was looking for in a community. They are very kind to my loved one and I do understand that a majority of my issues with Oakmont are stemming from their struggles with staffing retention due to Covid. If you have the opportunity, I would advise others to take a look at the perspective from other residents, as everyone's condition and experiences differ. I would highly recommend Oakmont; I have hopes that their Covid related issues will resolve as the world continues to reach a state of normalcy again.

It's a high end facility. The activities and environment are extremely good. Depending on the needs of your family member, I would suggest reviewing closely any need for 24-hour care. Since this was our first time with this type of care, we had some misconceptions about how much care would be provided. But it's a beautiful place. And the staff is great. I know it's a tough job dealing with memory care patients, and they've been very good with my loved one. If anything, admin is a little disorganized. I still haven't gotten invites and updates and things like that. Overall they're good when I come to them with questions or concerns. It just depends on who you speak with. I've found that email has been the best way to communicate. The physical therapy staff is absolutely wonderful.

We chose Oakmont of Torrance because they had a very good presentation and we felt comfortable placing our mom here. The facility itself was also new and it seemed to be well run and organized. It was in a great location to family as well which was a big help. Staff are very friendly but sometimes they were short staffed though. I would recommend as long as you are able to afford it.
