This is a better community than most. The staff and community itself makes it better in my opinion. The food is very good, and they do a nice job. Games, outings around town, gardening, movies, and more are activities for the residents to choose from.

The staff is very caring and work with you. They genuinely care about the residence. The community is neat and clean and the food is great. They have activities available for the residence and I would recommend this community to others based on my experience.

Good place for loved ones would highly recommend

The community has been good so far and from what we are able to see they keep it very clean. The staff are very friendly and our loved one is very happy there. The community is secluded which our loved one likes because there is a lot of wildlife like turkeys and birds that can come up to her window. They have a lot of activities for the seniors and she says the food is very good and have nice options.

Highly recommend

They do try to do farm to table meals here at Maplewood, they have residents growing and picking the herbs outside for the meals. They have a big open window and if someone does not want to sit at a table they can sit at that counter and watch the food being prepared. They have been great about social distancing in the dining room so that residents are still able to eat together. I have gotten the activities calendar and they always have something going on. They do things 7 days a week rather than 5 like some other places. I would tell others that communication has been GREAT. They call us, email us, we can face time. It is all one one floor so we have been able to also visit through the window. They make a big effort to keep us informed. Overall, I would highly recommend. I am very happy with our choice.

Welcoming community

While she was here, we were very pleased with this facility. The staff members here were wonderful to our whole family they were all very friendly and helpful. They did have a lot of activities to offer, but she did not participate in many. My husband and I went almost everyday to have lunch with her and the food here was amazing, they were chef prepared meals. The only thing that upset me was that once the virus started, it was closed down so I could not be with my mom when she passed away. I would highly recommend Maplewood at Twinsburg to anybody and I already have. I cannot say enough good things about this place.

My mom, who is 97 years old, has been at Maplewood for several years and is very content there. The staff knows her likes and dislikes and always honor her wishes. The executive director and her team are very dedicated and caring people. Those values filter down to all employees in every position and that’s why Maplewood is my mom’s home sweet home.

Great place for Grandma

Maplewood at Twinsburg is home to my grandmother and is my families extended home. Prior to COVID, we'd visit daily and join her for meals or activities just as if we were at her own home. COVID has limited our visitation, but the company has given us so many opportunities to connect with grandma (I-Pads on Facetime, a talking Robot, window visits and outdoor ventures as well). They have been proactive to ensure safely and have always keep in great communication with our family. Keep up the great care and service. The nursing staff is amazing.

Best Local Dementia Care

My father has had steady memory decline for the past 10 years. After my mother died, he needed more engagement, cueing, and medical management than could be provided outside a congregate setting. Initially he was in another local facility that met none of those needs. As my mother's decline was quick, we scrambled to secure a suitable facility. Our initial visit to the facility was on a Sunday, where we found Maplewood residents out of their rooms, engaged in activities and interacting with one another. All other facilities we visited that day could only be described as "warehousing." We were aware of Maplewood's favorable reputation, as I am familiar with a research project which was conducted there. After my father's admission, he has had a higher level of functioning than in his preceding two years. The food is excellent in comparison to other facilities. Staff has been reasonably responsive to any concerns, and they have been addressed. My father reports he feels safe and the staff treat him well. My father has been a resident of Maplewood at Twinsburg for over two years now and it is hoped that he will reside there for many more years to come.

"I want to spend the rest of my days in an AL that specializes in dementia", said no one ever!!  Obviously it is not the ideal situation for anyone, or the decision that any family wants to have to make, but I will tell you from first-hand experience, I know that having my mom move into Maplewood at Twinsburg in November of 2019 was the best thing I could have done for her, and for us! Mom was diagnosed with dementia about 4 years ago and we watched her short-term memory slowly start to fizzle.  She would repeat a question we had just answered, she would forget what day it was, she searched for words and was even having difficulties with driving safely and following the plot of a tv show.  Reading was her comfort, for she had been a children's librarian for most of her adult life, and watching her struggle to get through a book because she had to continue to read the same sentence over and over again, was literally heartbreaking!   My dad had become a hospice resident in a SNF, and passed away almost a year ago.  Once he passed away, my mom had a rapid decline in her cognition and was also starting to have issues with her back which resulted in hospital stays (5 to be exact) and 3 SNF stays, all within a 6-month period.  When mom was admitted for the last time, I knew that if I brought her back to her apartment after discharge, I would never be able to convince her that an AL setting was a good and appropriate for her.  I made arrangements to have mom transition to Maplewood at Twinsburg, and she was unsure about the decision, but after touring the building and finding out that she could have a cat (that alone sealed the deal), she was willing to give it a go.  Mind you, we went out and adopted a cat from the Summit County Humane Society a day after she moved in and that was the best thing we could have ever done, not only for mom, but for Sunny Boy, but that is a story for another time! I must tell you that we have our ups and downs with the understanding of why she is there, wanting to go "home", being upset with me because I am the "decision maker" and the fact that her entire life has changed, but the one thing that has remained is the care that my mom is receiving. From the moment I made contact with Maplewood, everyone, and I honestly mean everyone, was so helpful and knowledgeable and willing to take the time to answer questions, and to calm my nerves and to reassure the decision to transition mom to AL was the right decision.  From the initial evaluation ([name removed], your compassion and knowledge, your patience and kindness are of the utmost importance for that “first impression”) to the admission process ([name removed], you are amazing at what you do and the people skills that you possess are second to none and completely indispensable) and then to walking through those front doors and being greeted by the receptionists in such a familiar way that they make you feel welcomed and comfortable, I cannot say enough about all of them! The floor staff is outstanding, from nurses, to housekeepers, aides to dietary, there has always been someone available to me or to my mom whenever we have needed them to be.  They thoroughly enjoy their jobs and WANT to be there and that is apparent each and every day!  By the end of mom’s first day at Maplewood, everyone knew her name, had welcomed her and had gone out of their way to make sure she was having a successful transition.  To this day, they keep a close eye on her, as they do with all of the residents, and keep me informed of every little thing that I need to know! It is such a comfort and relief to know that my mom is well taken care of, is respected by the staff and that they take care of her as if she were their own grandmother.

A Blessing to our Family

Maplewood at Twinsburg was just what my family needed and has been an absolute blessing for our family. My mother fell ill early spring and was hospitalized - needed more care that what I could provide and we were recommended to this place, but Laurel Lake in Hudson. From my first call to moving her in - the process was really simply and the staff were so encouraging and supportive during a difficult time in our lives. My mother has blossomed and has made a couple of friends. I'd recommend Maplewood to others and would be happy to speak to anyone about your facility.

O.K. Facility with some issues like all facilities

My mother moved in about 3 months after they opened. Like all facilities, there were issues....clothing missing, hearing aids broken and/or not being used, hearing aids not being cleaned, but one thing I would say, the aids always treated my mom kind and loving. We were there nearly every day so we saw quite a bit. The part that upsets me is that, although they have a clause in the agreement that states you have to give them a 30 day notice before moving out, no one reminded me of that when my mom was nearing the end of her life. She had lived in 2 other facilities where upon death you only owed till the day you vacated the premise. At Maplewood, not even 10 days after my mom passed I got a bill stating we owed the balance of 30 days. We could have lowered the final bill if someone from the facility, who is well aware of the "rules", reminded me. They chose not to say anything so that we would owe the full month.

Thumbs up to this community for great care and support to me while my father was living there. We are grateful for Maplewood!

I am very grateful that both of my parents are currently living at Maplewood. It was not an easy decision to move our mother out of our parents' home of 48 years, but it was no longer safe for her to live there due to what appeared to be a rather sudden onset of Alzheimer's. We selected Maplewood because of its structured plan of multi-leveled care, Tides and Currents, as well as the option for hospice services to be involved when that time approached. We were impressed with the facilities on both sides of the building (dining room, kitchen, theater room, planting room, secured outdoor courtyards) and the warmth of the decor. [Name removed], our Maplewood intake consultant assured us that our father could move into Mom's apartment when he was ready to join her, as we had noticed that his memory was beginning to fail and he had lost a lot of weight due to Mom's limited cooking abilities at the time. In October of 2016, we moved Mom into the Currents side of Maplewood which is secure and offers services for individuals with Alzheimer's or other medical conditions which result in loss of cognitive (mental) functions. Four days after we moved Mom into Maplewood, Dad decided to join her. They shared Mom's apartment for one year, and the staff worked hard to encourage Dad to attend activities on the Tides side of the building which provides programming for individuals with dementia, but without the significant loss of mental skills. As Mom's Alzheimer's progressed, it was no longer helpful for either Mom or Dad to continue to share an apartment. The Maplewood staff moved Dad to the Tides side of the building, and for over a year now, they bring him over to visit with our mother every evening. The Maplewood nursing staff (Tides and Currents) is exceptional and it's comforting to know that a nurse is available 24/7. [Name removed], the current director of nursing, and the nurses are always willing to answer questions or to collaborate with outside medical personnel. Regarding Mom, I am impressed with the Currents staff and their ability to keep residents OUT of their apartments and involved with activities. I recognize that Mom is not always involved in an activity, but she is in the circle or at the table and is physically present if she should choose to participate. This takes a great deal of skill and patience that comes from proper training of staff members. Mom knows the staff members and greets them with a smile. She does not handle personal care activities (bathing, brushing teeth) at this stage, so we appreciate the challenges the caregivers face in providing her care, Regarding Dad, he is respected and happy at Maplewood, and he feels secure there. The Tides staff is also well trained and respectful of the residents. They welcome visitors at all times. Dad enjoys the daily activities in Tides, especially when they are able to go out in the van on "field trips." The daily exercise programs help Dad stay physically active and healthy. Our family is grateful for [name removed]’s leadership at Maplewood, and she has been at Maplewood since its opening. Her door is always open and she is always willing to meet with us as needed. She has the gift of leading from within as I have observed her functioning in almost every capacity when necessary, and she truly cares for each of her residents.

A Place of Dignity

Placing your loved one in a facility is one of the hardest decisions that you will make as a family. When we walked into Maplewood, we knew we had found the perfect place for our mother. The atmosphere was inviting, the staff was friendly, and the clients were treated with dignity and respect. The facility is designed specifically for dementia and alzheimer patients. There are two units, Tides and Currents, which are decorated exactly the same so that if your loved one must require additional care, they can be moved without much distraction or unfamiliarity. The dining room is set with tablecloths, glassware and serving pieces that resemble an upscale restaurant. The kitchen is on-site and the staff often comes out and asks the residents how their meal is tasting. If a family wishes to eat with loved one, just ask ahead and the kitchen will prepare a meal for you at a minimal price. There is also a family dining area for parties or other celebrations. Our mother was a resident at Maplewood for 21/2 years until she recently passed right before Christmas. We received so much support and love during those final days at Maplewood. We were there 24/7 and the way the staff worked together as a team during all three shifts, was nothing next to amazing. We were comforted and attended to like a family. We know our mom had excellent care and we thank the entire staff at Maplewood for showing her grace, love and respect.
