My father is currently a resident at Canopy at Walden Woods. He lives on the second floor of the two story building. The second story is slightly lower in cost or it was when we moved in. He is in a studio size space which works out nicely for him. The facility is newer, it's a small enough facility that residents don't have to walk for to get anywhere, and the location is good for us personally being between where we live and his healthcare providers. It's tucked away in a relatively quiet area/neighborhood. Overall, the building on first appearance seems pretty clean and in the common areas it looks pretty good. But staff needs training on housecleaning of individual rooms. This I would rate a (2). It's not filthy, but I end up cleaning my dad's room almost every time I visit which is at least once a week. Especially the bathroom. It does not get cleaned properly, in my opinion. I have cleaning supplies in my dad's room and clean the toilet and floor, especially around the toilet, every time I'm there. Also, staff has scheduling issues on when they clean the room and do the laundry. I have brought it to everyone who works there's attention. I'm also aware that other residents have similar issues. I've offered suggestions, but it's an issue that still needs constant attention. The friendliness is probably one of their best qualities. For the most part, the staff is very friendly, especially ALL of the women who have worked at the Front Desk. They are the Real Face of the facility, in my opinion. They know all of the residents. They are always helping out the residents or the family members. They help with communication between facility staff and the residents and their families. Both women who have worked the Front Desk are (5)star rated. Care providers, cooking/dining staff all treat my dad very kindly. The quality of care is a mixed bag. The biggest issue is probably retention of staff. I'm told it's a problem, especially in this type of work. For whatever reason The Canopy has a very hard time retaining staff. They have gone through two Building Directors. Right now, the facility is issuing a regional manager, [name removed]. Not sure how often she is in the building. They have been through multiple Chef/Cooks and multiple Maintenance persons. Then I can't keep track of Care Providers. I barely know their name and they are gone. They have been through multiple Salespeople too. SRI, the parent company has been filling gaps, especially on the weekends with Temps. This is probably their greatest weakness. I live close and stay in constant contact with my dad. I don't know if I would be comfortable leaving my dad there if I lived farther away. I live no more than 30 minutes away and I'm available anytime for my dad. My dad almost always goes to breakfast. It's his favorite meal of the day. Lunch and Dinner is hit and miss. The facility, when he first arrived, had a fancy chef preparing meals and offering alternatives. They've been through multiple personnel since. He either likes what they are offering or ends up eating his own food in his room. The activities offered are fine. Some he likes others he doesn't participate, but he's fine either way. It's not a huge issue for him. He interacts with the other residents just fine. Value for cost, I believe he still pays the same amount which is reasonable. We did have his fees reevaluated and it took some effort on our part to get that done, but for the most part he receives the services he pays for. I would recommend, when going through the evaluation process, pay close attention to services offered. What is included in the rent and what fees are service fees that cost extra? Make sure the facility can provide them. Ex. Two person assist. We were told The Canopy provides two person assist. They don't have enough staff on duty to do that, at least not on the Assisted Living side.... Read more

Walden Woods now has in house care with [name removed], which makes it very easy for me. My mom is moving from out of state and does not have a local doctor. [name removed] made it easy for me. Beautiful community, all the amenities we are looking for, and doctors in house. Thank you Walden for making a hard process as easy, and seamless as possible

The building is extremely clean and staff is very welcoming. Residents were out enjoying a cup of coffee from the coffee bar or some were participating in Bingo in the activity room. Nice home like feel.

This was my 2nd tour at Walden and met the new team! It was amazing. What a difference. From the Sales person Rachel, all the way up to the Executive Director, [name removed]! The residents were happy and engaged. The food smelled so good and The feel of the building is totally different and uplifting. I’m happy I gave it a second chance, you should too! Great job Walden and keep up the good work!

Tremendous turnover, staff is a speedy revolving door. Food is pretty bad, sometimes (no kidding) a hot dog on a piece of white bread. Not the "chef inspired cuisine" in their sales pitch. No RN on staff. They don't respond to calls for help from neck worn transmitter. Executive director is as useless as a box of rocks. Housekeeping is hit or miss, went a month without any housekeeping front the canopy staff in early 2023, high turnover of all staff. They are on their fifth (useless) executive director in two years (no kidding). Two executive directors have been fired in the past year ([dates removed]) one for stealing funding from residents. Please feel free to inquire about this statement with their sales staff. Sadly, I made a mistake placing my loved one in this facility, I thought they would be better, or at least adequate. Unfortunately, new and shiny doesn't mean "good". Don't believe the sales pitch from SRI (lack of) management - the canopy at Walden Woods. STAY AWAY!

If loved one is going into memory care ask what you can have in the room.

1. Turnover is unbelievable…which tells you tons. 3 Executive Directors in less than 2 years, 3 Resident Services Directors (NOT RN), food is mediocre at best, cleaning staff is horrible. We actually clean our mothers room every time we are there. The Dr couldn’t care less and has zero follow up or follow through. Really… just say no.

my mother was there (new facility) for a year in the memory care unit. Started off good but ended up in hospital 6 times for UTI 2 of which hospital kept her a week which ended up in rehab facility (all of them are terrible) for over a month. The staff turnover rate was very high. Corp. should of been there to help. Personal items always came up missing & clothing was washed improperly. No one ever answered the phone not even hospitals could get thru. As of [date removed]we took her out even tho they had hired a good mgt person that tried to make things better the nursing staff did what they wanted because they knew they couldn't be fired. Fact. My mother is so much better where she is at & back to herself

They are overpriced and understaffed to the extreme. They misrepresented who they would have available on staff. When we first brought my friend in, we were told there would be a 24/7 nurse on staff. Later on when he broke his hip, they had no nurse on staff or any other medical personnel in the building. Regardless of credentials, there was no one around for me to call out to for help, so I had to hunt somebody down, and they called the fire department. The room he was in was not clean. His toilet and sink were unclean to the point that I felt the need to clean it. There was no timeliness to housekeeping services. I had previously experienced a different facility with a family member of mine, and that facility was great - far superior to what we experienced here at Canopy.

We love The Canopy, they get all 5 stars! My Dad was very sick...UTI and pneumonia. [name removed], the head nurse at The Canopy said they could take him back home to The Canopy with Assistance. She actually came to the hospital to visit my dad! The staff cares and works with family. They aren't uptight and they let people live a quality life. The staff cares immensely and works WITH family. They do what's right and best for their residents on an individual basis.

1) poor management, Director is useless. High employee turnover. 2) lack of quality care. Issues ignored when brought to staff or Director. Mom ended up hospitalized due to lack of care. 3) Food is atrocious. Elderly with dentures or no teeth being served large, hard Al dente cooked vegetables, unmarinated meats, etc. New place buffet breakfast, choice of eggs by Chef, restaurant menu lunch/dinner, all day menu if miss mealtime. Diced, minced or pureed if needed. At The Canopy, Director [name removed] said, “we cannot cater to everyone and nobody else complains.” Well STOP saying you are a luxury place. There are places that cater in similar price range. 4) Poor cleaning. 5) VERY limited outings as new Activities Director said could not drive the bus. New place goes to zoo, aquarium, theatre, art shows, etc. New place has clubs for varying interests. 6) No safe place to walk for exercise. New place has trails with benches to sit along the way and full gym. New place better care!

It ws more expensive, and the residents did not seem as happy.
I toured Canopy at Walden Woods; it was very new and you could tell it was new. It was more money than the community I chose because you can't be independent, you have to be assisted. It was still in my price range. It was great, and it was nice. I just didn't get that warm fuzzy feeling. They were very professional and everything, I just didn't get the same feeling that I had with [community name removed]. I saw some of the residents, and the community was clean and beautiful. Canopy was my second choice, there was just something missing.
My best advice is for family to stay in contact with your loved one and have a good rapport with staff. The building is fairly new, maybe 2 1/2 yrs. Old so it looks on first impression pretty clean. My dad has been there almost 6mths. and in my opinion they need to clean better. The elevator needs the carpet cleaned and the carpet in the 2nd floor needs vacuuming. I don't think they really clean the room. Looks more like they empty the trash and make the bed and maybe clean up dishes in the sink if there are any. Toilet, sink and shower and floor doesn't look like it gets mopped or swept. (I have cleaning supplies in my dad's room and I will come in and clean when I think it needs a good cleaning.) (Front desk person, [name removed] is great. She talks to the residents and really gets to know them. She helps keep me in communication with the directors and other staff who are much harder to reach.) In person the staff overall are very friendly and are very nice to my dad. (This has been an issue from the beginning) Can't tell if they're short staffed or not trained well enough. My dad moved in potentially in need of more assistance. Since March I've been attempting without any success to have him reevaluated. He is paying for Care Services he is NOT receiving nor for some of the services he doesn't need or they no longer provide. Communication with facility and resident directors are very difficult. I've tried to speak in person, by phone, by email, and text and almost in every instance I don't receive any response.) (THIS IS MY BIGGEST ISSUE WITH THE CANOPY. POOR COMMUNICATION.) An evaluation is done on the resident prior to or at time of moving in to determine care services and the total number from the evaluation determines care service costs. Residents/family need to go over these services very carefully. More staff is in the memory care side of the building. Assisted living side always seems to be short staffed. Need more dedicated staffing on assisted living side so residents aren't waiting so long before caregiver responds. Staff are friendly when I do get to speak with them, but overall communication and responsiveness to issues needs a lot of work. They use to have a chef but he left. Now they just have cooks so my dad says they don't make the same kind of meals they use too. Supposedly they microwave a lot of the food. The dining attendants are very nice to my dad and he says they make him a very good breakfast everyday and give him plenty of food. [name removed], person in charge of entertainment and activities does a great job. She's always bringing in entertainers. My dad enjoys the ice cream socials they have three times a week. They have a large van that takes the residents to the grocery store, out to lunch, special away activities like going to Parksdale Farms for strawberry shortcake and to the movies on occasion. This is a little difficult to determine. This is the only assisted living facility my dad has been in. They were the best priced placed for the requirements we were looking for. [Name removed], my "A Place For Mom" person, did a great job of helping me find this facility that met all the needs we were looking for, for my dad. She actually called me back later and told me about The Canopy after further research on her part and got me a FaceTime meeting the very same day with the Resident Housing person, [name removed], no longer there. Overall my dad is doing well and he is being assisted when needed in his daily needs. His room is a studio size apartment on the 2nd floor. The bathroom is equipped with handrails, and walk-in shower. The bathroom also has built in cabinets and under sink cabinet space. Room has large closet and plenty of cabinets in the kitchenette area. Kitchen sink can accommodate a wheelchair underneath it. Refrigerator is normal sized. He has a window and can control the temperature in his room. The Canopy has a health care provider who comes once a week. There's also PT services available on sight and they have a visiting Podiatrist. The place is small enough that the residents can get to know one another. It's also small enough so the residents can get around without having too far to walk or get lost with too many twists and turns and buildings to navigate. Everything is in one building. The Canopy has been a good place for my dad's overall health and well being.

Canopy at Walden Woods was brand spanking new. The people were very nice and pleasant, and the lady who showed us around really took her time with us.
I thought Canopy at Walden Woods was a very good facility. It was brand new. We would have considered them for our loved one, except the location wasn’t convenient for us.
