They seemed to care about the residents and took a personal interest in them. The apartment layouts weren't the best. The air conditioning's air flow was not adjustable, which was our biggest problem. The food seemed to be fairly good. They were not as attentive as to what her likes were though. They were the only community that we visited that offered a high enough level of care for her to stay through end of life. It was a really nice community. The staff were nice, the decor was nice, and the residents were happy and comfortable there.... Read more

Response from Buffalo Creek Assisted Living and Memory Care
August 11, 2022Thank you Liz, for taking time to write a review. We strive to provide excellent care to all our residents. We will share your kind words with our staff.
The food is not good due to the portion size. Bingo, volleyball, and more are some of the activities available for the residents to choose from. The staff are not as helpful as they should be towards the residents.

My mom was on a very strict diet and the dining staff have gone out of their way and tried to accommodate her needs but with limited variety. The care of the nursing staff has been very kind and efficient, but we have had more issues with the administrative staff. We chose this community because it was the best in our neighborhood. They seem to always be short staffed. Also, they offered the staff very little training especially in the memory care. It could be the perfect community for someone who needs a low level of care, however, in our situation, it was not. We have been thankful for the community because it was wanted we needed at this time.

My Mother was at another facility and we chose this one because it was going to be a step up. I really like how the staff members actually treat her like a person and they are getting to know her. The staff helps her out a lot and her health is improving tremendously. For activities they have country rides, entertainment that comes in, parties, and bingo.

We spoke with [Removed]. The place smelled fresh. It is an unlocked facility. Very roomy. The rooms for assisted living and memory care were both larger than other places we have seen. My wife and I are split as to our opinion of the place. I didn't think it felt very comfortable.

Mom is settling in well with her move to the community. The rooms are spacious and the hallways are wide. She is able to set out on the porch and there is an enclosed patio for her dog. She is interacting and getting more involved with the numerous activities provided. She never misses bingo, and she enjoys her weekly trip to Walmart. There is someone who comes in twice a week to do her hair. They come in once a week to clean her room and do the laundry. The food is good except they prepare a lot of meals with chicken or turkey and she does not care for chicken. They do provide sandwiches on the nights when chicken is served. The staff is very warm and friendly. I feel she is very safe and secure in this community.

I like the care here for my father. The staff is caring and helpful. My father likes the variety of good healthy meals that they are enjoying. They offer a lot of activities and we were happy that the caretakers were helpful in getting him to participate. I would highly recommend this community for outstanding care.

The staff at this community have been wonderful. The community is small so the staff is able to be very attentive. The place itself is immaculate, the maintenance does a very good job. The room my mother is in fits her needs, which was very important to us. I haven't had a chance to try the meals myself but the food looks good. I would defiantly recommend this place to a friend.

I like the facility and the rooms are very spacious. Unfortunately, they do not have any openings at the present time. I like that the seniors wear an alert necklace at all times. I am also glad that there is a new hospital close by.

It's a sister facility of Covenant Place. It's over on the other side of the freeway by the Sterling House. My mother's sister is in there. It's a little bit more ritzy. It's a lot more money. My mom didn't want to go there even though her sister is there.

They have more activites and were a little nicer that the place we chose for my grandmother. Money is not an issue for her so we offerd to move her here but she says she's comfortable where she is. When we went there were people ready to give us a tour when we arrived. It looked like a very lovely place. It was the most expensive of the three we toured. When you first walk in their dining room looks like a French bistro. There are huge, high ceilings in the common area. It was really nice.

The staff has been very helpful up to this point, we have only toured this property. But I would give them 5 stars based on what I've seen.

The contact name I had was not there, but someone else was there to show us around. She had forgotten we were coming in today so she was not prepared for us, and it caused her to be flustered from the start. She was nice and pleasant enough, but it really seemed to throw her for a loop and she seemed nervous the whole time. They were evidently short-staffed today. We heard several mentions of someone covering for someone else. During lunch it was mentioned that the residents were getting ice cream and a cookie for dessert because they were short-staffed and they would usually get something like pie. I wouldn't have thought anything about the dessert if that hadn't been mentioned. Speaking of lunch - I may have misunderstood, but I thought these appointments were going to include having lunch there, tasting the food, eating with the residents?? Was that not right? Maybe they just didn't relay that message to her. Nothing was said about it, and we didn't mention it because 1) she was nervous and seemed to especially be nervous when we went in the dining area and started talking to some of the residents.2) the food looked nasty - choice of mashed potatoes with pieces of meat and gravy on top, with brussel sprouts,or a BLT with fritos. 3) they have assigned seating - my friend and I would have had to sit at different tables (which we could have done) or sit bat at table without residents. Without direction from her, we just left well enough alone. We did stand and talk to one table of residents (the ones that she called the 'popular table' which we found strange). They only had great things to say about the staff though - their friendliness, attentiveness, etc. They said my mom would love it there; that they are happy; it took some adjustment, but not too long; feels like home. When she finally walked away at one point to assist a resident with a walker, I asked the residents at that table 'ok, quick while she's gone, what do you NOT like here? Is there anything bad, really?' One lady said 'sometimes you have to really stand up for yourself to get what you want. Like sometimes you have to fight for your food.' I said, 'what do you mean, fight for your food?' She said, 'Well, they give you a menu, and something may sound good, but it may not really be good when you get it. I'll tell them 'this doesn't taste good - I want something else.' They'll try to remind me that I ordered it, and I'll have to remind them that I pay for this place and for my meals and I need food I can eat.' Then she said, 'Basically, just like anywhere, sometimes you just have to stand up for your self. If you can stand up for yourself, they'll eventually get you what you want.' (Yes, she was fiesty.) Same lady also told us that when she first got there she was assigned to a different table (pointed them out) but they wouldn't talk to her so she asked to be moved to this table. Everyone else at all the other tables looked sad, and no one was really talking. It felt like old people that were eating like kindergartners. Everyone in their assigned seat and everyone quiet while they eat. She did show us several rooms, and included at least one of each type of room. The entire facility was very clean and tidy. There were a couple of rooms that smelled, but I think that was just a personal thing with the person in those rooms, so I feel bad even mentioning it, and it could have been that housekeeping had not been to that room yet. Although...really, she should have known those wouldn't be good rooms to show. One of them I couldn't even stay in very long, and fanned my nose while I was in there. The rooms were very nice and were roomier than I expected although they still seem so small. Of course, this is the first such place I've visited, so my expectations may have been off. It had very much of a hotel feel to it. Also, some of the rooms seemed like a long walk from the main area.
