Brookdale West Univ. is a friendly, bustling, and comprehensive home for seniors transitioning to an independent living facility. The building itself is conveniently located to grocery stores, pharmacies, the Houston Med Ctr, banking, and more. Events are regularly offered for residents — concerts by the Houston Symphony, local entertainers, etc. which bring the outside world in to those who primarily remain at Brookdale. The meal offerings — sit down and a bistro— offer dining variety that suits many.

Very happy here. I’m just needing to adjust to my new normal. Surprisingly it’s not affecting my sleep. I sleep very well. My main focus would be, to get my mail situated. The thing I enjoy most are the burgers.

I toured this community and it was good. I was looking for a place that offered all levels of care, thinking about the future also and not just my current needs. This place doesn't off that, so I continued searching. But it seemed like a good place!
Our family had an in person tour and the tour experience was great
The units at this community are very nice. I have enjoyed meeting the people living at this community. The activities that I have participated in are good. They are not doing much but they just lifted doing things due to covid. We even went on a trip and it was really nice. We went to the museum and it was very enjoyable. We went out after for lunch and it was just a nice get away. This is a pretty good community.

When we first took our tour our mother loved it right away, everyone we met had nothing but great things to say about it, all the residents said it was a nice place to live. She does not take advantage of the activities yet but they do have plenty to offer.

Everything has been really good. There have been just a few minor things that have been annoying. Maintenance has been a little slow to take care of some things from move-in. The housekeeping staff made my mother-in-law cry, which I'm going to have a meeting with the property manager soon to discuss. After an injury, we were able to hire Brookdale staff to come help with the dog. But they send somebody different every time, and they're always in a rush. Which is disappointing when we're paying $20 for 15 minutes of service. One of them was rough when reaching for the dog the other day. The service just seems a little impersonal for something that's not cheap. I will say on the plus side, my mother-in-law loves all the activities. There's tons to choose from. The sales rep who helped us was awesome. My mother-in-law really loves the food. The location is phenomenal. The courtyards are great for her to walk in. Everybody that we talk to that lives there loves it there. We haven't heard one complaint from any of the residents. All the guests and residents are really friendly. She did have a fall recently and pushed her medical necklace, but nobody came. Since then they've told us that her button is working properly, so I don't know if that was user error or what. But overall the living experience has been great. She absolutely loves the people and the food. And she's very happy there.

We toured Brookdale West and it seemed to be an older building that was a little more run down than some others that we saw. We decided against this facility because everything she needed to get to was in a separate building and we wanted to keep it simple for her.
The food is nasty. I would say don't move here. It is a pretty community. It's not worth my your time or value. There is no help to help fix the air conditioning. The maintenance team is very poor. I've been trying to get enrolled in additional services, and the person that runs it hasn't done anything.

I toured this community and it was very nice. The tour was very good, they shared lots of information, and the staff giving the tour was nice.
We liked this community. The staff was very friendly and they gave us a lot of great information. They also did a great job protecting their residence during our tour.
I looked at 2 other facilities and chose Brookdale West University because of the value for the money as well as I liked the apartment sizes, they are very adequate for what I need. It has been a good experience so far and I would recommend.

I chose Brookdale because of the location, I wanted to be near the medical center and my church. I also liked the people that I interacted with on my tour. It was the best value for the money as well. I have a 2 bedroom apartment and it is great size for me. They have gone above and beyond with things such as the hurricanes, the ice storms, getting our shots, etc. They have been very accommodating and I would recommend them.

This isn't worth the investment according to my loved one. My loved one didn't receive the care and attention that the community promised. There was a time that my loved one had fallen, and the community didn't call the paramedics before I got to the community.

My scores are based off of COVID. We chose Brookdale West because of the convenience to family, the ability to get around town, etc. The apartment sizes here are fine for my wife and I. The best part about the community so far has been the security. I would recommend to others looking.

I would want others to know that all the advisories they give are false. They food is not what they say it is going to be and they do not do what they say they are going to do. I would not move my dog into this place. The equipment in the bathrooms to pull if something goes wrong, I accidentally pulled it and ran to tell them it was an accident and it turns out it was not even hooked up which I find very alarming. I even left things on the floor purposefully to see if they had come in to clean and they did not. I have nothing good to say about this facility.

Even though that don't have a memory care or Alzheimer's component, they are such a wonderful and caring place. The personalized living caregivers are incredible and outstanding. The care, the staff, and the security all love my mother. I really do love them and they have all been so good to my mother. The food is really good and they offer a variety to choose from. I would definitely recommend this community to anyone who was looking.

From the first day I visited Brookdale, I was very impressed with the cleanliness and friendliness of all the people I met. My daughter and I were instantly excited about my moving here. The staff is wonderful, the restaurant is exceptional clean, the food is wonderful and the service is outstanding. Anything you ask like for instance, laundry, housekeeper, and help in putting drapes up, and anything you need.. security is great too. I am very happy here I’ve found my home. [name removed]

A Place for Mom has scored Brookdale West University 9.1 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.
We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.
Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
