Staff is very helpful, caring and kind. The food is really good. We have interesting and fun activities, that give us the opportunity to socialize and relax with our friends. Living here is a great experience, and i highly recommend it
I would like to share about my family's experiences with Brookdale San Marcos South thus far. My sister and I had to make the hard decision to move our Dad into assisted living last summer, pretty much against his will. It was difficult. Brookdale made the transition easier for us, even though it was a strange and hard time for our Dad as he lost much of his independence. Currently our Dad is still in Brookdale, but now under hospice care. The care he receives is wonderful. The care he was receiving just as a resident was very good, and they continued to increase his care as his needs are increasing in intensity. Now he is reaching the end of his life, and the hospice care he is receiving is amazing. Between the Director, the nurses, the caregivers, the cleaning crew, the caregivers, the wonderful receptionist and every other employee on campus go out of their way to care for the residents. If you make a decision to place your loved one at Brookdale you will be very happy
The whole staff really care, they make me feel as if I'm their number one priority, they focus on my care If I have any questions or concerns they are addressed immediately! My family, especially my oldest daughter is very satisfied with my care. I love living here!
It was such a blessing that a spot opened up for Mom in this location. The staff welcomed us with open arms. When we walked in on moving day, they had a cute personalized sign welcoming my mom to her new home. The Executive Director was always just a phone call or email away. The Business Coordinator has a heart of gold. She was patient and kind in helping me with the financials. The Concierge is always there with a wonderful smile. I know that I can depend on her for help with mom's appointments and delivering messages. The Programs Coordinator takes care of everything that mom might need for the day-to-day stuff. The dining staff have always been open to suggested food items to make mom feel at home. The doctors/nurses are phenomenal with my mother, who is not always the easiest to deal with! Even the custodians go out of their way to do what they can to make life easier for my mom. And...MY quality of life has improved ten-fold since making Brookdale her home.
Brookdale is a wonderful place to be! We have great neighbors! We have activities that everyone can participate in. Our weekly happy hours are very happy! The entire staff is great You can't find any better
Mom came to Brookdale at a time when she needed some extra help with care and the luxury of not having to worry about meals and housekeeping. She immediately made new friends and enjoyed many of the activities. My son and I celebrated most of the big holidays with them, and enjoyed the festive setting and delicious food that was served. The care that the residents received, from what I could see, was very nice. We had her moved to Silvergate's assisted living san marcos facility due to her worsening Alzheimer's and I will always be grateful and appreciative of how well she was taken care of at both facilities. Thank you!!
The staff was very concerned and caring for the resident. My loved one thought the world of her daily caretakers. She mentioned how sweet they were and how she loved them so. She loved the food overall, with a few particular favorites. And the staff made sure she received those favorites on a regular basis. At first I thought it was really expensive until I realized how much care they were providing and how much I would have been doing at home. So it's definitely a great value.
My mom has been very satisfied with Brookdale San Marcos South. It has been a temporary situation from the get go and the staff here know that. The rooms are older. but they are a good size. They have kept them as up to date as they could. The staff are very willing to work with you on what you need. My mom is very happy here and I would recommend them to others looking.
In general, you need to understand the financials, know what you will need to provide when it comes to essentials. The communication between the staff and the family is good. I would recommend this community to others
I wanted to send my thanks to all the people taking care of my mom at Brookdale in San Marcos. Whether it has been in person, through email, or on video calls, the staff has been great to me. [name removed] has been an angel for setting up weekly FaceTime calls with me and my mother as i live several states away. I greatly appreciate this and it means the world to me to have these video calls with my mother!! I thank everyone there who has helped my mother and my family through all of this.
Excellent and compassionate care for our mother, grandmother, and GG. She moved all the way from Boston and a very different culture and the staff have been amazing to her, even during those times that her dementia and anxiety show a pretty difficult side of her personality. Thank you, [names removed], and the whole staff. You are the best!
I realize this review is a bit lengthy, but I ask that you please read it before making your decision to move your loved one into Brookdale South, San Marcos. I feel it is important to know the facts about the assisted living community that will become your family members new home. Most of, if not all the communities that Brookdale purchases are older, outdated buildings, which I’m sure comes with a multitude of problems. I could list numerous things, but the problem that effected my family members living situation is the outdated plumbing which caused multiple water leaks in and around her apartment. Due to the lack of attention in fixing the problem correctly, over time the continuous water leaks allowed for mold/mildew to build up. Included in the residents monthly rent is weekly housekeeping and laundry. I wish I could attach a picture of the mildew under the toilet rim of the toilet my family member used daily. It is absolutely disgusting! Three meals a day are also included in the residents monthly rent. However, when the food they are being served is so bad that some of the residents go to the grocery store, incurring the additional expense to buy food to eat or they just skip the meals completely, this is unacceptable. The resident’s complaints and suggestions about the food and never changing menu seem to fall on deaf ears, as the management team and head chef do nothing to improve the situation. Lastly and most importantly, Brookdales Emergency Call Alert System for their residents is inconsistent and most likely outdated. The staff’s response time to the resident’s calls is not always acceptable and UNSAFE. No one, especially an elder family member should have to sit on the floor, after a fall, for 40 minutes waiting for someone to come help them! The staff blames this on being understaffed, but management will tell you that is not the case. Either which way certain people are lying to cover up the seriousness of the problems going on in this community, not to mention the extremely unprofessional way this situation was handled by upper management personnel,[name removed]. When expressing my complaints and concerns regarding the welfare and safety of my family member I was completely offended by [name removed]'s condescending responses in addition to some remarks made by her that were totally uncalled for. Considering how expensive it is for our family member to reside in an Assisted Living Community, is it too much to ask of these communities to provide quality food for them to eat, a clean apartment for them to live in and to be taken care of in a healthy, happy, safe environment with a management team that truly cares about them? Thank you for taking the time to read this.
This community was our second choice. The staff seemed so upbeat and the community looked well taken care of. They did seem to offer some nice activities. The community we chose just seemed to fit within my loved ones budget better.
Brookdale San Marcos is very clean and comfortable. The food is really good, it is served restaurant style with nice linens and plenty of choices on the menu. I wish they would encourage the resident to mingle more at meal time. Encourage them to change tables to make new friends, my Mom thinks she is assigned to the one table she always sits at. I would like to have more activities for the residents and to encourage my mom to participate more. My mom needs to have help to attend the different activities because she is not as ambulatory as some of the other residents. If she is not personally encouraged and helped to the activities she will just lay in her bed because she is not sure of herself. The staff has called me to let me know she doesn't want to get out of bed and then I call and tell her she needs to get up and get going. They offer Bingo twice a week, and a couple other activities, but again the activities are located far away from her room. They could use more musical entertainment. They provide outdoor activities, feeding the birds, and residents can take walks around the community. They provide transportation for trips to Dr.s, and shopping. They do not transport to Dr's appointments outside of San Marcos area. The staff is very friendly and really sweet. My Mom really loves her nice, huge apartment. We feel Mom is very comfortable here at Brookdale San Marcos.
My tour of this community was a good one. Everyone was nice, and kind to my family. The staff I met was kind, and cordial. From what I saw the community looked nice, and everything was clean. My questions were answered, and overall my tour went well.
My first impression was great. [Removed] at the front desk greeted me and was very nice. [Removed] the Marketing person showed me around and answered all of my questions. As we walked around I noticed how all the residents were interacting with one another and having a great time visiting with each other and the staff. I also met with [Removed] the Director of the facility which also answered more questions and spent time with me which I really appreciated. I can't say enough good things about this facility, the staff, residents and everyone I come in contact with there are so friendly and helpful. My mom loves it and has already met new friends and stays busy with all the activities offered.
It has been going good for my mom so far and the staff have been providing the care she needs and always being helpful. Her meals and activities are more than adequate with choices she can pick from. There has been no discrepancies about cleanliness through the community or in her room.
We had a good experience during our tour of this community. They were extremely helpful, and kind.Everything went very well. The staff was very kind to my family, and myself. They were very good with their follow up, to make sure we were okay.
I love how all of the staff have so much patience for my mother in law. They will try to work with her and try to encourage her to engage more in the community. My mother in laws room is really nice. I also like the set up of the community her room is near the dinning room. It's a clean place and kept organized. The most important thing is that we know she is in a safe place.
My husband was only here for a few hours and he fell and broke hi hip. I am unhappy with the community for not refunding me my deposit because we did not move in after he fell on their property. I agreed to pay for the time my furniture was in the room but I have not got a resolution yet.
