I don't even know how this place get anything above a 1 star. This particular Brookdale Loma Linda location beware!!!!! This location is run down, ask for a tour to see the ones that the current residences live in, They're location behind the building has freight trains that travel day and night, so anyone with a back unit will be disturbed. The patio in the rear parking is not very pleasant looking. The food quality has gone way down. Most important, they will do a full on sales job with an enticing affordable rate, then within the first year it will go up without any Doctor assesement. They know once a parent is placed there most times family doesn't move them. This place is a scam!!!!!!!!! The only good thing I can say is most of the staff is friendly, just do not trust management.

We only toured B 3020rookdale and didn't select it because she really didn't need that level of care. Brookdale was also very nice though. Mission Commons was the right fit for her.
I would recommend it. The people are very sweet. I just wish they would encourage the people to get out of their rooms. We picked this community, because it's close to my loved ones docotors, and other family.

I really enjoyed talking to [name removed]. He was extremely and friendly throughout the tour experience. He went above and beyond. I would definitely recommend that others check out Brookdale Loma Linda.
They were always understaffed. New hires lacked proper training. The place always had an odor - they need to pull up the carpet and replace with a washable floor that can be sanitized. The shuttle bus trips are very difficult to schedule. Many of our trips had to be hired out by outside service because the staff could not accommodate - however many times I saw the staff departing the empty bus at Brookdale with lunch to go for themselves in their hands. It seems like it was treated as an employee shuttle instead of a patron/resident shuttle. Maintenance was good but residents and family need to repeatedly remind the office to handle the maintenance issues. The social director, [name removed] was not very sociable. Bathrooms are so small and narrow and impossible or extremely difficult to accommodate wheelchairs and walkers. My dad fell multiple times trying to manouver his walker in the bathroom. Brookdales's solution was to remove the bathroom door which resulted in zero privacy and my Dad shared a room with my Mom. It was very unpleasant. Medical management needs oversight. The staff felt it was ok to have a 2 hour window for medical doses however my dad is on a strict schedule. It resulted in multiple falls. Also, many of the evening pills were given in the AM despite the doctor instructions to dose at night.

Response from Brookdale Loma Linda
December 20, 2022Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback. Your feedback will be shared with management.
They had Bingo for the residents. We picked this community because, it wasn't a memory care unit, and they offered a one bedroom apartment, which was available. It felt like a safe place for my loved one. They worked with us during a very difficult time.

We toured this community and it was nice. Our guide was very friendly and helpful, she took her time with us and answered all of our questions. It did feel a little more 'institutional' than some of the other communities and is a little bit older.
Overall, it's a very nice facility. My loved one is being well taken care of in a safe environment. Recently they lost their chef, and the new chef's food is not to my loved one's liking, although other people do like it.

They really did not tell us to get the things ready that we needed when our loved one was moving in - meaning what we needed from for we could not use and it messed up our plans. Our loved one had two rooms and the AC unit was on the wall in the other room is it was difficult to control the AC and heat in our loved ones bedroom - it was just not the best set up. Also our loved one would have to wait a long time for someone to come and assist and it took them two weeks to do our loved ones laundry when it was supposed to be done every week.

I liked the facility. It was a nice facility. The staff was nice. The grounds were nice. it was in a nice and quiet environment. They had a room available but we were not ready to move-in yet.
The Director was really great to work with. The community was too big for my loved one.
Brookdale Loma Linda is a very nice community, it really gives off that hotel concierge environment. Right when our family walked in for the tour we were impressed and liked it right away. The two sales coordinators [name removed] and [name removed] were really trying to work with us on our budget but just after awhile due to our loved ones level of care became to much and we are having to move him. We really wish he could stay at Brookdale because the staff have properly taken care of him and the community is very safe.

Our loved one really enjoys the meals but sometimes the dining service can be a slower just to be understaffed. However she loves the dining hall experience and the people that work there. Our loved one does not always participate in the activities but they do seem fine. We think the value for the money is wonderful - the pricing is good and it has been an awesome experience. Overall we have been very happy and we would absolutely recommend Brookdale Loma Linda to other families.

This was a very nice community with genuine and friendly people. It was too far for friends and family to visit our loved one. This was the only drawback.
my mom is currently at Brookdale Loma Linda, and she really likes it there. the only complaints she has is that it is an older building so sometimes they take a bit longer than anticipated to fulfill maintenance requests. the building itself also needs some upkeep, but we're understanding of the fact that there isn't much they can do about that. she's also made some comments about the food; while it's not horrible, it does lack flavor at times. I did remind her that not every resident can have salt or foods high in sodium, so we're understanding of that as well. on the other hand, there's a piano in the lobby and she gets to play it everyday. my mom is still very independent and does not have a need for a high level of care. she went to Brookdale for the socialization and she is definitely receiving that. she's very involved with the activities and with the other residents. overall, she's happy and the amount of community interaction is a positive.

We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.
Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
