Discover the many ways to pay for senior living

Planning ahead can better position you to make good choices for your loved one’s care in the future. But if your aging family member needs care now, there are ways to finance the cost of long-term care through a combination of approaches.

What are care homes?

Residential care homes are houses in residential neighborhoods that are equipped, adapted, and staffed to care for a small number of residents, usually between two and 10. Like assisted living communities, staff at care homes typically help residents with activities of daily living, including bathing, dressing, and medication management. Although residential care homes vary significantly depending on the community, services usually include:

  • Help with personal care
  • Medication management
  • Mobility assistance
  • Nutritious meals
  • Social activities and outings
  • Housekeeping
  • Laundry

Learn More About Care Homes in Naples, FL

Naples is a beach town located on Florida’s Gulf Coast known for its high-end shopping and dining, world-class beaches, and gorgeous weather. A popular residence among celebrities including Judge Judy, Naples is consistently ranked in the top five for most expensive retirement destinations.

Residential care homes — sometimes called care homes, board and care homes, group homes, or personal care homes — are often houses in residential neighborhoods that are adapted, equipped, and staffed to care for a small number of residents, usually 10 or less. Similar to assisted living but in a smaller, more residential setting, these homes provide supervision, organized events, and assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs). This means care homes can help with everyday routines but typically do not provide 24-hour skilled nursing assistance.

Cost of Care Homes in Naples, FL

In the state of Florida, the median monthly cost of a room in a care home in 2019 was about $2,800. However, the cost of living in a care home depends largely on location. Since the homes are private residences, costs are tied to real estate value and therefore may vary greatly.

Over half the population of Naples is over the age of 65, and the city consistently ranks as one of the most popular but expensive retirement destinations in the country.

The most dominant feature of the city is the Naples Pier. Built in 1888, the legendary pier serves as the town’s official symbol and remains a popular spot for fishing, dolphin watching, or just spending an afternoon in the sun. Anyone interested in shopping and fine dining can head to Fifth Avenue South, which runs from downtown Naples to the beachfront. Fifth Avenue is lined with boutique shops and excellent restaurants, making it a popular spot to spend a night out on the town.

With such lovely weather in Naples, it should be no surprise that local residents enjoy spending their free time in the sun and by the ocean. The beaches in Naples are described as having “sugar” sand because of the fine white texture. Popular spots to enjoy the calm waters of the Gulf of Mexico include Clam Pass Park and Delnor-Wiggins Pass State Park. The Naples Zoo at Carribean Gardens is a great spot to learn more about the local wildlife and the region’s biodiversity. Visitors to this 43-acre park can feed alligators, take boat rides, and learn about the 70 different species of animals that call the park home.
