Family too poor to take care of him when he was a small child due to his father's early death. Was taken in by the city of Detroit, MI and later adopted out along with his sister to a family with a farm. Worked, beaten and cursed like a slave for years until the farmers house burned to the ground at which time he left the farm. Father of two daughters, respected in his community and a man of God.
