Clyde was drafted into the service in Sept. 1969 and sent to Vietnam in July 1970. He served with Company D, 2nd Battalion, 12th Calvary, 1st Calvary Division. When their platoon came under intensive hostile fire, Clyde, although wounded and refusing medical treatment, held his position and blocked enemy advances while the other members of his platoon reached protective cover.

He was posthumously awarded the Silver Star, Army Commendation Medal with V, and the Purple Heart.

Clyde was 20 years old. he is remembered on panel #7, line #27 of the Vietnam wall.
