Joe Porto served in the navy during World War II when he was 17 years old, One of he many services was on the USS Gosper - he served a large part of his service on this ship. as part of the "GATOR NAVY" he was a YNCS (Senior Officer) - During his time he worked with the Underwater Demolition Team. That later would become Special Operations. In 1964, he retired while serving under a 4 star Admiral at the Pentagon. The Navy had offered him a chance to work in New York as part of the CIA, true to form he headed to Florida retired and helped his aging father with the family business. He never spoke of his military life and most of his awards and medals were taken from my mother after his death but he wore the pride of his service till the end.
