Served in the army from 1943-46. Sent to the Pacific Island of Japan named Ie-jima. IeShima (English) was the major starting point for the surrender of Japan. This was the 1st stop of the Japanese Betty Bombers, before meeting with General MacArthur. Betty Bombers were the white planes with green crosses. Ernie Pyle was killed on this Island.
